Default If you could end Step By Step in a better way...

If you were going to come up with a more fitting series finale for SBS,

how would you do it?

What would be a fitting way to end it all, in your opinion?

Maybe a plot for everyone. First Frank gets a new job in California, and they have to move. Then Dana would get proposed to by Rich, and JT would to Sam. Karen would get a modeling job in Paris, and Mark would probably be going to college, maybe he skipped a grade I can't remember what grade he was in. But, anyone he'd get a full scholarship to Harvard and move there. Al, would graduate high school and pursue her dream of acting, especially since they're moving to California. Also Brendan would ressurface, it wouldn't need much explination considering Frank said they have SEVEN kids in the last season.

I see that idea & raise it this way.

Brendan returns from the Island of Misfit Sitcoms! Sorry, that's the joke answer.

Here's my real answer. Brendan returns from rock camp, where he learned to rock on the guitar & sing, as well as write music. When he made it big, Lilly would be president of his fan club (Lilly would probably be around 10-12)

Dana, JT, Karen, Al, and Mark all move out to live on their own. Frank and Carol sell the house. Frank, Carol, Brendan, and Lilly move into a smaller house across town.

Brendan would never have disappeared, and Cody would have returned.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen the ending, what ends up happening?

I think it only was something like
Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
they were moving into a new house, but Lily didn't want to go, so they never ended up moving.
There was a last episode, but no real ending.

Question: Why would the remaining Lamberts sell the house and move into a smaller one? What if the departing kids were to come back to visit? Would they have a room to sleep in, or would they be relegated to a motel?

It would have ended it this way. Dana and Rich decide to transfer to another college out of state. JT and Sam get engaged. Al and Karen decide to move to New York together. Al gets accepted at a theater/acting school and Karen gets modeling gigs. Mark graduates high school early and decides to attend the same college as Dana and Rich. Brendan returns and his absence is explained that he went to live with Frank's mom for awhile. He then moves in back with Frank, Carol and Lily. In the end the Lamberts and Fosters are united.

I would have ended the series with Dana dumping Rich for me. However, that's just me. Actually, ending the show with Dana and Rich getting married would have been a nice idea.
