I just want to share something with you that I know you'll all appreciate. A friend of mine was supposed to go on a trip to Arizona last year to see the Grand Canyon, etc. and couldn't go because of a family emergency. He went, instead, a few weekends ago--just for the weekend, a small trip. He saw the GC and then was doing a little sightseeing in some other areas nearby. Finally, he found himself looking for something to do and checking out a local theater when, lo and behold he saw the big advertizement in front of him: "GILLIGAN'S ISLAND: THE MUSICAL." Now, of course, I've talked about GI with him but he is not a fan, like us. But, he actually bought a ticket, sat there and watched it!!!
When I saw him last, he told me about it. It's so weird that we both live in New York, the theater capital of the world and he finds this out in the middle of the desert. Wasn't that crazy and wasn't that so nice of him?!?!?! |

Cool! What an awesome stroke of luck! It's a shame you couldn't go, though. Did he like it?

To reply to ph11, I meant "nice" in the sense of doing something kind or generous. I know my friend had little to do out there, as he reported, and he was probably curious from my talking about the show but I think he also saw it as a favor to me. So, "wasn't that nice!"

Thanks for the explanation but I'm still confused. What was kind and generous of him?

A good analogy would be if you have a friend who loves classical music, and you don't. You're flipping stations on the radio and hear the DJ say, "Here's one of Bach's classics." For your friend, you don't turn the station. Instead, you give it a listen. You might even like the music. The next time you see your friend, you tell him that you listened to one of Bach's compositions and even enjoyed it. Im's friend was kind for sitting through a play that wasn't his cup of tea. He was generous with his time. Another example is when my husband dutifully suffers through my 'chick flicks' because he knows it makes me happy. It's kind and generous in heart and spirit. Nice story Im, and that's a cool buddy you have. Did he enjoy the play?

Thanks, Janice, for your clarification. I don't think my friend suffered as much as I would when my husband and I took turns renting movies and I had to sit through his action films or when he sat (slept) through a long foreign film that I rented. I had prepped him enough on GI that he was probably curious about it to a degree--so I think he had some fun along the way!
