Default Valerie Bertinelli cites infidelity for divorce from Eddie Van Halen

Valerie will be on Oprah on Feb. 25th.

Valerie Bertinelli is kissing and telling: In a revealing new sit-down with Oprah Winfrey, the actress and Jenny Craig spokeswoman says that she and ex-husband Eddie Van Halen cheated on each other.

"I cheated," she tells Oprah on the episode airing Feb. 25 (via Entertainment Tonight). "He claims to this day that I cheated first, but I don't know. I don't know about the timing."

Bertinelli, 47, who's promoting her tell-all book, Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time, also reveals that her ex, with whom she's now friendly, wanted to take their relationship slow – at least at first. "He didn't want to sleep with you," asked Winfrey. Responded Bertinelli: "I know ... I wanted to sleep with him ... and he wanted to talk to my dad first."

I'll give her points for honesty, but why does she want to air all her dirty laundry?

I was kind of sad when they broke up. They made a cute couple.

Same here, on all accounts. I'm not calling Valerie a liar, yet as a woman, not being sure of who cheated first is strange, to me anyway. I say that because if you're cheating on a faithful husband, the guilt must be overwhelming. If you're cheating on an unfaithful spouse, it's more like revenge sex, so to speak. Who forgets how they felt the first time they cheated on their spouse, and the reason why? I guess Valerie does, but everyone's different, and Hollywood's an entirely different world.

I just seen a snippet of the Oprah show featuring Valerie and it is Valerie who is the one who cheated first! She also snorted cocaine. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now before you read the following, after Valerie made the comment abt not knowing the timing of who cheated on who first, Oprah states to Valerie, "But in your book, you state it was you who cheated first." Valerie then has this look on her face and she says something to the effect of, "Oh...I said that in the book?" Then says something abt forgetting that part.

Oh wow, I don't condone cheating, regardless of who did it first. hno:

from Entertainment Tonight:

VALERIE BERTINELLI was America's sweetheart when she was the star of "One Day at a Time." But on Monday's OPRAH WINFREY show, she drops a few bombshells that reveal perception isn't reality. She discloses that she cheated on her husband and she snorted cocaine.

The interview airs the same day that Valerie's motivational book, Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time will be in stores. It is the story of her tumultuous 24-year marriage to rocker EDDIE VAN HALEN, her struggle to maintain a healthy self-image and more.

On tonight's ET, we have a sneak peek as Oprah asks, "So you got married?"

And Valerie responds, "And passed out in the honeymoon suite."

Valerie also tells the talk show queen: "I cheated, too. He claims to this day that I cheated first, but I don't know. I don't know about the timing."

But these days things are better between the now-divorced couple. Valerie told our CHERYL WOODCOCK in a 2005 interview, "We don't hold grudges about past mistakes. And we are there for our son period."

The new Jenny Craig spokesperson explains her reason for coming clean: "I just figured that if they are going to watch me lose 40 pounds and I'm going to be embarrassed that way -- and there's going to be fat-ass pictures of me with my butt hanging out in Hawaii, I thought, 'Why not let the inner me out, too?' 'Cause the inner me is, I hope, prettier than the outer me."

i agree. cheating is very wrong & the fact that your spouse or partner was cheating on you first is no excuse for you to cheat on them. there's just no excuse for that kind of a thing.

i'm going to have to remember to watch this episode of oprah next week.

I'm still sorry that Eddie and Valerie's marriage didn't last. However, I'm a big fan of both of their's and wish them both only the very best. I look forward to reading the book. It should be good.

I'm sorry their marriage didn't work out although I never thought they were right for each other. I'm glad that they're getting along now though . I don't know why she has to take this all public now though. Well I'm still a fan of hers ( this doesn't change anything) but like most of Hollywood you don't know what goes on behind close doors.

How come you never thought they were right for each other, Sonny? Eddie is actually a very down to Earth sort of guy.

Valerie always had this girl-next-door look and way about her, to me anyway. Why is she blowing that image with admissions of cheating and doing drugs? I wonder how the people at Jenny Craig feel about this. Don't think they don't care either. She's their spokesperson.

I don't know. Maybe it's just the way he's always come across. I'm not a fan of his so you probably know more about him than I do. I remember though watching the ODAAT Reunion special and even her co-stars were shocked at that match. They must have been in love though for the marriage to last as long as it did. I am sorry that they broke up. It's sad when any marriage breaks up like that.

I know, if this is between her and Eddie and he doesn't seem to be giving any details (yet) on their relationship, what purpose does this serve? If she was talking at a marriage group or speaking to kids abt drug use (since she snorted coke) I can see her opening up, but really, I am not sure why she wants to open the gates to her most intimate details of her life. Then again, maybe it makes her feel good in some odd way.

The drugs really did shock me because I know MacKenzie had a long history of drug problems and Valerie saw what it did to her.

I think a lot of the shock came from the fact that as a band, Van Halen had a very wild, party image during the early 80's. However, Eddie really had nothing to do with most of that. When Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth were out getting drunk and all that sort of stuff, Eddie used to just sit in his hotel room and play the guitar.

Bingo! That is what I am thinking. After seeing what it did to her castmate, wasn't that enough to keep her from doing it? Apparently not.

It is sad. They always seemed ill-suited to me too. That union had lots of people scratching their heads in amazement. Valerie didn't seem like a rock & roll wife to me. Nothing wrong with it, but I pictured her marrying someone with a squeaky clean image. I'd read through the years of Eddie having problems with alcohol and drugs, and she was his rock. It's good that they're remaining friends, even better for their son. There's nothing worse than a bitter divorce.
