In keeping with blink's idea to keep the board interesting while we anxiously await news on Season 2 (I predict we'll see it this year
), I thought I'd start a thread on favorite quotes. They can be funny or poignant, or maybe words that had an effect on you personally for whatever reason. I'll start out and gradually add more: Benson (to Clayton): I'll be right back. Don't do anything stupid. WAIT--let me rephrase that: Don't do anything, Stupid."

Here's hoping for Season 2 DVDs!
I like this one b/c it shows Gene's not afraid to be blunt when the situation calls for it. ANd against Senator Chapman no less, someone whose name we hear over and over again through the show's run, and who we only see once in person (if he comes out more, I'd like to know). ++++ Senator Chapman: “Are you implying that Representative Harris is my yes man?” Governor Gatling: “No, I’m not implying anything, Senator. I’m stating it loud and clear.” Senator Chapman: “Well, I have something to tell *you,* Governor. My committee has to approve this nomination and your Benson doesn’t have a chance in Hell. I’m going to bury him.” Governor Gatling: I think you’d better leave. Now! Episode 47: Benson’s Appointment |

Here's one from seson 6.
Katie and Mrs. Cassidy talking in the kitchen one night. Katie: Mrs. Cassidy how come there are ice cubes in you're hot butted- rum. Mrs. Cassidy: Oh..I figured I'd try it without the hot butter.

This is from "Crimes of the Hearth" (Season 4):
Pete: You should have a sign in front of your door saying that the place has an alarm system. Benson: That's first on your list, a sign? Pete: I'm telling you, it discourages people from stealing. Denise: Well, where do you get a sign like that? Pete: I just grabbed one off a neighbor's lawn.

I still think one of James Noble's funniest lines is in the very first episode:
Marcy (bringing Benson in to meet the Governor for the first time): Governor, I'd like to introduce... Governor Gatling: Introduce? Oh, this man needs no introduction; I'd know the Reverend Jesse Jackson anywhere. (After a minute of assuming it was Jesse Jackson) Marcy: Governor, this is Benson. Governor Gatling: Benson? Benson: Benson. Governor Gatling (confused): Reverend Benson Jackson? Classic! |

I loved it when the Governor mentions he's never gotten a letter from the President, and Benson said, "I did. It said GREETINGS!"
Or, when the Governor said, "Let's get on with this - pause!" in the episode where the mansion is bugged. Classic.

It's good to be back - I took some time away for various reasons but it's great to be chatting about TV shows again.

This one cracked me up from "Let's Play Doctor"...basically, Dr. Albert Breyer is practicing medicine without a proper license and ends up serving jail time. Benson and the Governor had planned to give him a humanitarian award because he has helped a lot of people and they plan to surprise him by giving him an opportunity to train as a nurse so what he is doing won't be illegal. So while they're waiting for him to show up and accept the award, Benson comes in and asks the Governor where he is.
Benson: I have some good news for Albert. Where is he? Governor: Well, he isn't here. Benson: Well, what's the delay? Governor: I don't know. I called the jail and I asked them if they still had Albert in the can and they hung up on me. Benson: (pausing for the audience laughter) Did you tell them you were the Governor? Governor: Yeah, when I called back. And then they said if I didn't cut it out they'd tell my mother.

How about the line when Gene met his wife? Benson said, "Please, can't this wait?" Gene says, "That's exactly what she said!"

I also love the scene from "One Strike, You're Out" where Benson and Marcy are looking out the kitchen window at the striking staff. When Marcy says that they are "waving", Benson suddenly yells: "SAME TO YOU, KRAUS!!" I just lost it!!
