Question SO Interview [pt 2]: Mikado (Week 6)

Mikey's name is one of two names picked for the SO Interview of the Week!!

Ask Mikey anything. And away we go....

My questions:

1. What is the story behind your SO username?

2. Have you ever been to the U.S.? If so, where?

Mind you Mikey, I know most of the answers to the questions I will ask, but I ask so that others can know you better too

Where in the world would you love to travel if money were no object?

Outside of where you live, where else does architecture fascinate you? What buildings or bridges do you find extraordinary?

Tell us abt the pets you have had.

What 5 U.S. cities would you love to visit?

What things cause you fear?

1. What is the story behind your SO username?
Well, its a name I picked up as my "anime" name years ago, long before I was ever online. My name is Michel so, i wanted a Japanese name similar to that, so, i chose Mikado....it's also the name given to the powerful silk trains of the 1930s and steam trains are another passion of mine.

2. Have you ever been to the U.S.? If so, where?
Only just across the border in Buffalo for a few hockey games and Lewiston NY to see Fort Niagara, and that's the only times I've ever been out of Canada

Well, first Id see the rest of Canada, (Ive never been west) by domed train , then maybe visit a few select spots in USA then id go Asia , especially Japan and China (The great wall must be something to see) and maybe France (only cause most of my ancestors came from there), mind you, i havent much interest in Europe

Quote:

I find pretty much any large bridge fascinating but especially large bridges that open for boat traffic , mind you the small stone bridges in Europe and wood bridges in Japan are very picturesque also. I think the Brooklyn is probably the most picturesque bridge, but, I have no interest in seeing it live.
As for buildings, I tend to enjoy pioneer buildings and 19th Cent industrial architecture such as old mills and factory ruins....also, I love Gingerbread Victorians!

Quote:
Tell us abt the pets you have had.
Well, 4 budgies, several quick-dying goldfish and 3 dogs (The first thought she was a cat; the second was a fine watchdog and the last was a lap dog, who hated laps and prefered to perch on my shoulders )

Quote:
What 5 U.S. cities would you love to visit?
Hmm well, Id love to see the Henry Ford Museum at Dearborn, The Smithsonian in Wash , LA..cause I know a few people there maybe see the BIG antique car show in Hershey Penn (not too far from here) and for the fifth, well, anywhere on the Erie Canal (Which I'd love to travel on for a week)

Quote:
What things cause you fear?
Besides women? Well, basically I fear big cities with their gangs and crime.....i could never live in a big city; I fear (and hate) politicians who think war is a solution

What is your Favorite childhood memory?
Strangely the best day in my childhood that I can recall was my first trip to the city dump! Me and my friend Jackie (Who was a girl my own age , who lived next door at the time) found a bunch of refridgerator crates and spent the next 20 or 30 mins running in and out of them, playing a kind of tag/hide and seek; sounds weird now but, when I was 4 a giant box held many secrets and wonders

Favorite color?
RED

Favorite episode from Corner Gas?
The Tax Man, second ep from season 1- This ep was actually the first show of the series that they ever filmed, and still the one that makes me laugh loudest! (Although, the first 2 shows of season 5 give it real competition)

I was looking for info about WHY Dick York was replaced on Bewitched and the Which Darrin do you prefer thread came up on Google, so, I opened the page and joined a few days later, originally intending only to give my view on THAT question (I'm a Dick York fan); never expecting to have almost 20,000 posts here since

How did ya find out about Shonen Knife?
As an anime fan, I'd heard of Shonen Knife about 5 years before I'd ever heard one of their albums, and didnt really have any interest in them until one day, MuchMusic (Canadian version of MTV) played one of their videos (Riding on the Rocket)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSqGtOj72Q4
as almost a joke.....I was blown away, 3 tiny punk J-girls playing hard and fast, so , i bought the CD with that song on it (Let's Knife); just to see if that one song was a fluke, and was HOOKED....I now have easily the largest collection of their music in the Niagara Area

Yes, flying Jelly Attack is about the girls having a food fight, one of them throwing jelly beans and the other throwing cherry drops (cherry hard candy) SK is well known for their "food songs" among other things and this is probably their funniest food song, but, it has a great beat!
They were probably on a diet at the time!

Hi Mikey

Does your family "get" your sense of humor?

Have you ever wanted to publish your pictures & drawings in a book?

And if you could have been on any 3 tv shows, which 3 would you have picked?

Hi Mikey
Hi

Quote:

I'd have to say my family doesnt "get" me at ALL, and that includes my sense of humour.....i'm basically influenced by MAD Magazine (in my look at humour) and the 60s message of free spirits, experiencing life moments, as opposed to living to work, til you drop. (I think my sense of humour reflects that)

Quote:

I'm torn, as much as i love to share these things, publishing them would make them a job, and worse, they would be perused by the media critics; I'm not the sort who takes that kind of thing well, I need ENcouragement, not DIScouragement.

Quote:

Well, I dont see TV as real but, hmmmmmm........ Corner Gas might be a real blast cause its Canadian, funny, and, I happen to resemble the star just a bit and could see myself playing a distant cousin, or something.
M*A*S*H.....politically, the message this show had is VERY similar to my own views; as long as I didnt have to do any scenes in the OR...even fake blood makes me queasy!
Lost In Space-the only Sci-fi show I ever liked, how could any kid* not love Robot B-9?
*I mean, I was a kid when the show ran

Well, I love to draw and paint, do a little writing (mostly comedy), spend time on SO (and other places online) , take pictures of 19th cent industrial architechture (incl the old Welland Canals), "ghosttowning" (Finding and recording defunct communities), doing picture puzzles,
taking long walks and collecting things (Asian art, toys and old local postcards). There was a time when i played hockey up to 5 times a week, but, darn it, when you hit 40, it just becomes too difficult.

Is hockey the number one sport in Canada? Where does Curling rank?

Have you ever played Curling?

What sports (other than Hockey and Curling) would you love to see the Corner Gas cast play?

How did you learn to cook?
