Default Finished reading Robin Givens's book, "Grace Will Lead Me Home"

If you're looking for more insight on HOTC, then this book is not for you. She does mention it on many occasions, but doesn't get into the specifics of it---how the cast was, what the show was like, anecdotes, or anything like that.

The book focuses on her family, from her grandmother Grace, mother Ruth and herself, all women working on strengthening themselves and escaping abusive relationships. I liked how in the beginning it focused on the strong bonds of Robin's extended family from Lexington, KY.

When the book started to slope was when she spent the good latter half of it talking about her relationship with Mike Tyson (she refers to him as "Michael"). I realize he was a huge part in her life, but it were me, I wouldn't give that thug an iota of anymore attention. (She spends only a few paragraphs talking about Brad Pitt, who she said was a sweetheart and caring. It baffled me how she spent so much time dwelling on the caustic relationship with Mike Tyson, but so little on someone who did treat her with respect.)

I still thought it was a good read (more so in the beginning) and worth it whether or not you are a fan of Robin or HOTC.

Thumbs down

Too bad she doesn't get into HotC that much. And you're right. She should forget that no good Mike Tyson!

The only thing I can recall her saying about HOTC was bringing food staples (bread, crackers, tuna, etc.) when they went to Russia (something about what was going on over there caused food shortages). She also made a comment about she and her mom sharing food with the cast. She said the cast brought their families overseas as well, and they were there for two weeks. Mike Tyson came along, and she said in her book that he nearly raped her in the hotel there.

A lot of people call her a "snob" and a "golddigger," but I just don't get that vibe from her. She just seems like a beautiful and intelligent woman who went for the wrong man.

She mentions the specifics of working on that episode of "The Cosby Show" (how Phylicia Rashad expected her to become a better actor from listening to her fellow actors while on stage, how Bill Cosby helped her get onto HOTC, and how she became friends with Lisa Bonet), of working on a TV movie called "Hollywood Madam" (and how she considers Faye Dunaway a legend), and working on the TV movie of the novel "The Women of Brewster Place" (and the many women she worked with on that---Oprah, Jackee, Cicely Tyson, Lynn Whitfield, etc.) and the other shows she worked on.

I know HOTC is only a fraction of her life, but it baffles me that she didn't get into details about the show. Maybe she wasn't as emotionally involved in it as we all thought. (And didn't she date Brian Robbins? Why wasn't that mentioned? So many unanswered questions! Oh, well.)

I just finished the book. I really wished she would have spent more time talking about HotC. She didn't even mention any of her 'classmates' by name! She spent more time talking about the great friends she made on the show 'Sparks' which, what, lasted all of one season? Somebody on Head of the Class should write a book about their experience with the show!

Well 'Sparks' last for two seasons. I want to read the book. She was on "Praise the Lord" last fall and my former Pastor happened to be hosting that episode that she guest starred on.

I'd like it if Khrystyne Haje wrote a book about her HOTC experience sometime.

Sounds like an interesting read, even if she didn't get into too much detail about HOTC.
