When did you begin to watch this show, what attracted you to it and what about it makes you a life-long fan?
( I'll think about this a bit then give my own answer)

Ok, here goes......In the 1960s when this show first ran, I wasnt allowed to watch it (Well, it was pretty violent stuff for a 4-8 year old, at least my parents thought so); but, I do remember watching it a couple times with a babysitter who loved it

, anyway, to me, Get Smart was TV ads for the SKITTLES bowling game and a few other such items (These ads starred Don Adams AS Max).Later, i saw the Nude Bomb, and since I barely remembered the original, it seemed pretty good, besides, I've always loved parodies, having been raised on sneaking my uncle's MAD magazines! I didnt actually watch the whole series (well seasons 1-4 anyway) until the 1980s, but, fell in love with the show.....Our local stations never showed S5, so i've never seen it...would you believe I have the entire series on HD Blue Ray DVDs? No? Would you believe on standard pirate DVDs with extras? No...how about seasons 1-4 on 20 year old VHS cassettes I made myself, right off the TV?

I started watching Get Smart when it was on Nick at Nite. I started taping it but only got mainly episodes from seasons 3, 4 and 5. I had never really seen most of the episodes from the first 2 seasons until I got the dvds. The part I liked most about the series was the relationship between Max and 99.

I watched the show during its original run on NBC, back in the sixties, because
I was already a big fan of comedian Don Adams, who had previously
appeared as a stand-up comic on Steve Allen's show and was a regular on
Perry Como's show. He had also appeared in a recurring role as detective
Byron Glick on The Bill Dana Show and was the voice of fast-talking
penguin Tennessee Tuxedo on the CBS Saturday morning cartoon show. I
had even bought one of his comedy albums ("The Roving Reporter"), so I'd
have to say star Don Adams was the reason. I wrote him a fan letter and
still have the autographed photo that I received. He was one of my favorite
comedians, a class act.

I watched it on TVLand. But only remembered a few things. The Impossible Mission, the thing with the spider and 99 and Max at her house in Iowa. (Which is all S4)

I then last year (or this past Fall/Late Summre) heard of the tv-movie from 1989. And really wanted to see it. It took a while, but got to see it, and couldn't stop watching it. (haha) And this made me want to see the Series again *a lot*!

And well come Christmas morning, I got it!

And, yes, I also love the relationship between Max and 99.

It's kind of ironic isnt it; that both Don and Barb had so much trouble in their real-life relationships? (Don was married 3 times and none of them worked out & Barb became so disenchanted with love, that she eventually decided that "being alone" was the lifestyle that she prefered (And even wrote a book about it!).)

Well I meant from the beginning.

And, yeah. But I thought (or just figured) that he was with his wife Dorothy for sometime. Even though he did have a few "break-ups" and seven children. (which is cute, the kid thing)

Yep, those two things stand out for me also.

As far as the entire series, I've always liked it because it's pleasing from a visual standpoint and the characters are likable. Those are the two qualities that are required for me to like a TV show. Visually pleasing, likable characters. Most of the Get Smart episodes are funny, some are just plain silly. But overall it's a good series.

This is not a sitcom, but one show I've always liked over the years is Emergency! Talk about a visually appealing show with likable characters, this one sure does it for me. This show is so 70's and I'm a 70's guy, whenever I watch an episode I pretend it's 1974/75 all over again. Yea, those were the good ol' days. And when you watch Emergency! and see how professional the actors play their roles, these are the type of medics you would want responsible for your care. Compare that to today's medical drama trash like ER, the way those people act and behave, with doctors like that a patient would have to fear for their own life.

Yes they certainly are, Max is basically the guy next door , trying to be James Bond...and almost succeeding , 99 was the reliable modern woman(for 1965), yet, never threatening to the man she loved, Chief was the boss we all wanted, he'd get on you, but, always knew when to pull back; and was loyal to Max, no matter what. Hymie, was of course the second most lovable robot after B-9 (Lost in Space) and 13 & 44 were hilarious, each in their own ways. Probably the only character that didnt work was Fang, (sorry Fang lovers) who while kind of cute, rarely added much to the show (imo). Even the villains were kind of likeable, particularly Seigfried and Shtarker
