i dont think they are that bad - just make sure you label everything CLEARLY, TRIPLE check the address, and package everything very well (lots of padding) ...and be PATIENT around the holidays.

UPS gets kinda expensive.

On the whole, the post office does extremely well. If you're willing to throw in a couple extra bucks, you can send stuff Priority and it will get anywhere in the country in about 2-3 days, and that's still cheaper than UPS. I just sent something from here in Michigan to Flordia with Priority and it got there in 2. You can also use delivery confirmation to see when the package was delivered.

I always use priority mail - the boxes are free and there are also several sizes of flat rate boxes - about 7.85 (11x8-1/2x5-1/2) and 12.85 (new size 12x12x5) where whatever fits ships for that rate. It arrives in 2-3 days. Delivery confirmation is only about 40cents too.

I hate UPS - they never get a signature and just drop off the package on the steps where I live. And they are more expensive than USPS in many cases and I have to go farther to find a UPS location.

Default interesting analysis...

Interesting analysis of UPS.... unfortunately you are
quite wrong. In 80% of the cases, UPS is cheaper than USPS.

UPS gives you trackability of your package, as well as
the date as to when your package will arrive. Does the post office?

As for priority, yes, it normally will be 2-3 days, BUT....
sometimes it can take a week! Do they care?? no, actually
the post office doesn't guarantee delivery and will not refund
your shipping charge if it doesn't get there on time.

I have seen where the post office charges DOUBLE what UPS
charges.

All I suggest is you research what you're saying on this
subject. I am very familiar with both organizations

I'm not trying to start anything, just stating the facts that
have been released by both organizations.

I agree with you that in some cases, UPS is cheaper but 80% is off the mark. Alot of factors need to be considered such as, Item being shipped, destination etc.. Also, Don't forget that in some instances, UPS has a surcharge for residential delivery plus they tack on a fuel surcharge as well. I've been selling on eBay for 5 years and very rarely use UPS. As far as tracking is concerned, The USPS does provide that service and while they don't make any guarantees with priority mail, They do with express.

Most of the time, I don't have a problem, but recently I sent something to the west coast via priority mail. It was mailed on Feb 1, and was not received until Feb 20th. It was also sent certified. I called and reported it and they couldn't tell me where it was. Finally, after about 3 calls to the local post office where it should have been received, I was told it was just sitting on the shelf, but they could not tell me why.

Canada Post has been charging a fuel surcharge for a couple of years now, I'm surprised USPS doesn't do this as well. Consider yourself lucky.

+ we don't get free mailing boxes or other supplies from our post office - we have to pay for everything.
