Post Nancy not fit for the part as Joanie

I mean she did a WONDERFUL job, but Joanie was supposed to be a ugly unacttractive girl that no boys like and really really not pretty.
Nancy is none of them

Nancy is prettier than the girl that played Laura

Cool

I agree....Nancy is beautiful,,,and did a great job in portraying the character in this movie. The character of 'Joanie' was also stronger,,more independent,,etc. than the 'Laurie' character.

I think most of these feelings of being less attractive and inferior to her sister really came from Joanie's head,,, guilt that had built up over the years cuz of her father's suicide. Not to mention the mistaken viewpoint of a 10 year old girl who thought her father loved her little sister more.

I know people who have had these types of parent issues haunt them for years in their adult life,,,and these were people who didn't have to witness the suicide of a parent.

Just my take here,,,but i'm sure 'Joanie' could've had many boyfriends if she had made herself emotionally available. I believed psycho 'Michael' when he said that he would've been attracted to Nancy's character if he had met her first.

I agree that she believed that she was ugly in her head. It wasn't true though. I understand what she is going through with depression and all. i felt bad for her character.

I agree with Michele. The feeling that she was not beautiful was all in her head. She had made herself think like that for so long. I think Michael helped her more than she helped him...
Nancy portrayed Joanie amazingly as always.

Talking

I agree- I think it was all in her head. I cried alot during and after that movie. It was so sad that she had to "witness" another suicide of a close person. I also thought the movie ended suddenly, and that's why I continued to cry.

Nancy did an excellent job, as always!

Teddy: Be honest with me, not my parents!

Jinny: All right, fine. You want honesty? Why don't you let me tell you a little bit about my family? See, I never really never had a birthday party unless of course you wanna count my 15th, when my father showed up for cake, plastered in his underwear! Oh... yeah, by the way, my mom couldn't make it that year either because, well, sadly, six months earlier she BLEW HER BRAINS OUT!!!!!

Jinny: As for my brother, ugh... yeah, John... see, he just doesn't like you unless your American, white, and straight... and for me... a few weeks ago when uh... I had that nut case after me... yeah, I had to make a little list, of all the guys that I've slept with in the last two years. I couldn't remember some of their names.

Teddy: Stop.

Jinny: Ya know what? THIS IS WHO I AM, THIS IS MY FAMILY!!!! Come on, it's your turn. You go ahead, flash that all-American, prep school, choir boy smile and you tell me that it doesn't matter.

I agree... it really was all in her head. She thought it was her fault that her father killed himself... but if Nancy wasn't "fit for the part as Joanie", then she wouldn't have been cast as Joanie. I really don't think Joanie was supposed to be "ugly". She just thought of herself like that.

On April 24, 2008, Dana and I are going to meet in LA and handcuff ourselves to Nancy McKeon and Jay Harrington, and you're not. Ahahaha!

Jay Harrington is all mine! I don't care what you guys say, cuz he's mine! Not yours! AHAHAHAHAAAA!

Teddy: Hey, I'm making you an offer you can't refuse.

Jinny: Look, you know who I am, OK? You know who my family is. Why the hell do you even wanna be with me at all?
Teddy: Because, I love you.

Jinny: What was she expecting? The welcome wagon?

Jinny: Basically, people are who people are. Your born, you die pretty much the same person. All the rest is just window dressing.

Check out my Nancy McKeon Supersite!
