I wonder what Elly thought when Granny cooked possum stew or gopher gravy. As much as she loved critters, how could she eat that?

How about "possum innards", especially when Elly used to have possums climbing on her shoulders ?

I think it's because where they used to live, in the woods, they had to go hunting for their own dinner.

Elly may have had the view that a LOT of ppl have. Most ppl seem to think that some animal's lives are not as important as others, and see some animals on human levels almost while others are just meant to be eaten.
Like my cousin is a huge animal lover of things like dogs, cats, rabbits, etc... but has no problem eating sausage, hamburger and things like that. So maybe Elly, like a LOT of ppl, saw things like possum as things mean to be eaten. I don't recall Elly ever having any pet possums or anything. Though she WAS against Granny cooking the turkey for Thanksgiving. |

I wonder if Granny ever threatened to make vittles out of one of Elly's critters.
