Default This Is Melanie

Candace Cameron-Bure stars in this new comedy-drama as Melanie Stiles, hostess of "This Is Melanie", a christian talk-advice show. Melanie lives with her guardian Jerome Moreland, who took Melanie in when her parents Robert and Monica were killed in a plane crash. Episodes depict Melanie's frequent battles with producer Diana Hoborek [Alison LaPlaca] over the direction of the show [Diana wants a tabloidish approach, but Melanie says no, preferring a more clean direction] as well as her warm loving relation ship with Jerome. Also featuring Leigh McCloskey as Jerome and Kurtwood Smith as Dick Cochran, VP-GM of the unnamed station Melanie works at, and who sides with Melanie.

Default Re; This Is Melanie

Episodes open with Melanie commenting on the story the audience will see. The bits will last 30 seconds.

Default Diana Takes Over

Melanie gets a touch of the flu when an epidemic hits Chicago [where the show is set] resulting in Diana [herself a former talk-show hostess] taking over. When Diana turns the show into a Springer-Povich type show Melanie reacts in horror. Jerome [over Melanie's objections] drives to the station and confronts Diana, who in turn socks Jerome in the stomach. Diana is then summoned to Dick's office where she, with the blessing of the owner, played by Nancy Dussault, is suspended for 2 weeks with no pay. After getting well, Melanie apologizes to her viewers.

Default Double Dating

Mary Ann Mobley guest stars as Karen Enders, a widowed mom who, after appearing on Melanie's show, and following Melanie's introduction to Jerome, goes on a date with him, [Even though she is a little older, that fact doesn't faze Jerome] while Melanie goes out with Karen's son Jon [Ryan Merriman].

Default The Unruly Partygoer

Melanie is invited to a party celebrating her station's success, thrown by the station's advertisers. She is none too delighted to discover Diana making a total fool of herself, drinking-and smoking-heavily with Di's unnamed friends. After throwing her drinks and telling off one of the sponsors, Diana is told to go home, but refuses. After Dick takes Di's car keys, Melanie calls Jerome, who, along with Karen, drives Melanie and a still unruly Diana home. Di screams bloody murder, but Melanie prevails.

Karen and Jon move to a Chicago suburb, leaving Melanie and Jerome-aka Jock-single. But Jerome isn't a bachelor for long, he meets Loreen Taylor [Karen Sillas], who is a fellow employee of The Chicago Mirror, where Jerome is assistant managing editor. Melanie becomes friends with Loreen, to Jock's delight. Meanwhile, Diana is arrested on assault charges and-once again-suspended, causing the station to ask Melanie if she could produce as well as host her show.

Default The Iron Lady

Amanda Bearse joins the cast as Mandy May, Diana's close friend and assistant producer, who tries to get Melanie to see things her and Diana's way, that is, have Melanie feature guest appearances by people whose views clash with Melanie's. Melanie relents on one condition, that she ask very tough questions. Mandy refuses, and that leads to a clash between Melanie and, on the other side, Diana and Mandy. Meanwhile, Jock is promoted from sports editor of the Chicago Mirror to assistant news editor.

Default Devious Is The Word For Diana

Melanie receives an award nomination for best local talk show, however, Diana fails to submit it, preferring to submit the nods for the episodes in which she filled in. Melanie is less than happy, causing Jerome to find out what went wrong. Diana-once again-socks Jerome, this time in the face, hitting one of his eyes. When Dick, returning from New York-where he was on company business, finds out about all this, he chews Diana out. The situation is rectified, and Melanie wins. Di threatens to quit, handing in her resignation, but when Dick looks at her work file with her past resignation forms, Diana is beside herself. Melanie, Jerome, and Loreen celebrate, meanwhile. Also, Christopher McDonald joins the cast as Ross Joseph, the show's director, who is a frequent target of Diana's insults, but gets along fine with Melanie.

Default Change For The Better [?]

Dick, at the behest of the owner, reluctantly promotes Diana to program manager and Mandy becomes Melanie's producer. Diana sides with Mandy over the direction of Melanie's show. Melanie, however, holds her ground, causing aggravation for the outlandish Mandy. Also, Jerome and Loreen, with Melanie's encouragement, decide to get engaged.

Default What's Eating Diana?

When Mandy is fired, Diana goes berserk and destroys a water cooler, causing Dick to send Diana "to the unemployment line" if she doesn't clean up the mess. Faced also with the threat of the clean-up coming out of her salary, Di relents, but after knocking over the bucket used to clean the mess up, she whines like a crybaby. Meanwhile, Melanie, on her show, gives helpful advice to a family who had lost their son to a hazing incident in college.
