Default Oliver

Over on the "Brady Bunch" page of this site, someone started a poll regarding whether viewers liked or disliked the addition of Cousin Oliver. So far, a lot of people including myself have posted our opinions on the subject. One thing that is very clear is how similar the addition of Oliver to "The Brady Bunch" was to the addition of Joey to "Gimme a Break!" In both cases, the child stars on the show had gotten too old to be cute anymore and the network tried to tie in some younger blood. Similar situations took place on "Different Strokes", "The Facts of Life" and countless other series! This is usually the kiss of death for that show. At least it was in the case of "The Brady Bunch"! However, there is another similarity in situations that I had never thought of until quite recently! One thing that I have posted quite a bit about on this page of this site is the joy that I got when I saw Samantha burst Katie's bubble at the end of "Samantha's Protest"! On "The Brady Bunch" page of the same site, I posted a lot of messages about "Cindy's bubble being bursted at the end of "The Snooperstar". I have stated on both pages that, in my opinion, both girls really got what the deserved! However, what it took me a long time to realize is that both of these episodes took place very shortly after the addition of the new kid (in both of these cases, it happened to be a boy)! I wonder if there is some sort of positive corelation between the presence of a new little boy and the reality of a girl getting disappointed. What do other fans think?

As much as I am flattered to see that two people have responded to my post, I am going to have to say that I am at a loss for what the things that they have put on the board have to do with the thread that I started! The purpose of this thread was to compare the similarities and differences between the time that Joey became a character on "Gimme a Break!" and the time that Cousin Oliver joined the cast of "The Brady Bunch". Might there be some neauance that I am missing? I would be "very" thankful to anyone who can explain to me what the significance of these words and pictures is and what it has to do the points that I tried to make at the start of this thread!
