Default 3rd Color Honeymooners DVD Set in May

They're cranking them out faster, it seems:

Perhaps MPI will release all of the 1960s shows (hopefully including the missing one from the soon-to-be released vol.2 and the short sketches missing from the reruns) and then MPI will re-release the 1950s shows in new, remastered format. Just a guess on my part.

It's says in the description for The Color Honeymooners Collection #3 due out in May, it's 600 minutes... That comes to 12 episodes this time!!! After getting (9) episodes in the 1st Collection, then only (8), I sure didn't expect a total of 12 for the 3rd set. MPI is suppose to be good with bonus extras, why can't they have them for these sets is a mystery to me? The Dark Shadow sets have (40) episodes with bonus interviews, and the cost is just $3.00 more, I know there half hour episodes, compared with hour long, but still that would be (20) episodes for each Color Honeymooner set, if MPI was being fair as with The Dark Shadow sets. I guess we should be happy that this time there will be more episodes for the 3rd set. I would like to see the Pert Kelton return episode, never seen it before, think she only did the one episode. Like I mentioned to Bill S, one of the episodes I look forward to seeing in Collection #2 is "The Fortune Teller", since it looks to be the most wanted Still Lost episode from the 50's. I don't know really how others feel about The Color Honeymooners, but I'm really happy to see these released. I know Audrey is missed, but I think Jackie thought Sheila did very well, she just doesn't have the energy of Audrey, but is very likable I think. I have a feeling Jackie liked Jane Kean being Trixie, since he didn't let Joyce Randolph return for those reunion specials in the 70's. I'm still surprised on that move though?

One interesting thing to note is that the next 12 episodes ("Be It Ever So Humble" through "Follow The Boys") are the last of the hour-long musical remakes. After that, the shorter remakes begin with "Six Months To Live" (11/23/68). That being said, it doesn't seem like "Life Upon The Wicked Stage" will be released...yet, at least. It's great that they're starting to release the sets quicker, but I wish they would release everything. Hopefully Collection 4 will include those shorter sketches that haven't been shown on AmericanLife. Even with the 20 episodes that are being released in Collections 2 & 3, there's still 20 episodes left over out of the 49 color shows, and that's not even including episodes like "The Incredible World of Ed Norton" and "Women's Lib." Let's keep our fingers crossed...

Didn't "Women's Lib" feature Audrey Meadows as Alice?

No, that was actually the last time Sheila MacRae played Alice. That's why I think it would make a great addition to the Color Honeymooners collection. Audrey played Alice in the 4 reunion specials that aired in the late 70's.

"Women's Lib" was the "episode" from The Jackie Gleason Special that aired in 1973. According to either the Larry King Show that aired before the 50th anniversary special, or the 50th anniversary special itself, Gleason's estate didn't have a copy of this special and the only place it was located at was at the Museum of Television and Radio.

I would also like to know what Honeymooners (if any) were performed on Gleason's 1970 CBS special.

I feel the "Life Upon The Wicked Stage" will stay missing off the dvd collection, now that is was passed up for some legal reason... Has this episode been aired on TV? Would like to see the shorter episodes make it to #4, but what is "The Incredible World of Ed Norton", is this a seperate special?

"Life Upon The Wicked Stage" has been shown on AmericanLife TV. I do belive that the only musical number that was edited out was the opening June Taylor Dancers number. Funny how a small "niche" cable network like AmericanLife TV was able to secure the rights to some of the songs but MPI couldn't.

12 episodes for a retail price of $39.99. Now THAT'S more like it! (I still think the first volume was to test the waters to see how successful these episodes would sell to fans. My guess they sold well enough to make these new releases possible!)

Using John's book and its episode guide, this volume 3 should take us through all the episodes from the 1967-1968 season, plus the hour shows from the 1968-1969 season just stopping short of the short sketches that were aired in the 68-69 season.

I've looked at these lists hundreds of times, but not until just now when I looked at the list did I see that during the '67-'68 season there were not very many Honeymooners performed? I always thought it was the following season that Gleason tried to shy away from the 'Mooners (hence the shorter skits and not the hour-long shows) but did he try to do that in the 1967 season as well? He had to of change his tune by the 1969-1970 season since these shows were BRAND NEW stories featuring the characters, the first time brand new sketches were performed featuring the Kramden and Nortons since the 1950s. (Not counting the two American Scene skits, and Gleason specials like "Step on the Gas" or whatever that one was called.)

Looking ahead to the 1969-70 season, there are only 12 Honeymooners segments that have aired on GoodLife/AmericanLife. I hope that MPI is not content to stop with those segments on Volume 4. I'd still like to see the short form sketches and "The Incredible World of Ed Norton."

I think if the short form sketches don't make an appearance in volume 4, then maybe MPI should bundle those and the 1970s sketches together and release them that way. That would be a great deal if you ask me!
