FM had so many Fun episodes to watch from start to finish. You saw the kids at other places instead of just inside the house. You saw them at school, the Mall, and theme parks. The Grandparent was more of a minor character and not used heavily. There was never a episode that revolved around RICHIE like how the Cosby Show had eps revolved around RUDY and OLIVA
How many times did we see the Huxtable Kids at the mall? At school? I can only count 1 for each and for the most part everything was at the home. The huxtable family also never had any christmas eps. So who else agrees that Family Matters was much better than the Cosby show? |

I definitely agree!
FM also isn't bowed down to as this incredible, life-changing experience that saved people from suicide, ended holy wars, prevented teenage pregnancy, caused the divorce rate to decrease, and made crime virtually non-existent for 30 minutes every Thursday night. |

I never heard of the Cosby Show as being this holier than thou show or saving people from suicide, ended any wars, etc.
Comparing the Cosby Show and Family Matters is funny. They were two different shows. The only thing they had in common was the fact the familes happened to be black. But if you feel the need to compare, then I couldn't decide which is better or funnier. They each had their moments and their weak characters that we could have done without. |

I think as a whole FM was a funnier show. TCS got into preachiness a lot during the later seasons. FM just made me laugh.

FM was just more out of the house. Not just in the house all the time. You never saw any of the huxtables kids on the subway like you did the winslows. FM was just a all around fun show to watch. |

Well I know the cosby show didn't have any buffoons like waldo and urkel but the other regulars on family matters balanced out their wackiness like Laura, and eddie.

True, but Urkel basically took over Family Matters tho it seemed. Hell, a lot of people generally referred to the show as "Urkel" back in the 90's.
I thought he was amusing the first two or three seasons, and then the show became Urkel Urkel Urkel and started getting over the top. |

Both shows were equally funny. I think Irene said it best in her post - it's one of those things you just can't make a decision on.
Although, if anything, I'd probably say The Cosby Show was funnier. It didn't rely on "stupid" humor, which Family Matters often did a lot. |

I like FM better, but only until season 5 where it became the Urel show. You know FM kids were suppose to be loosly based on TSC, Eddie was based on Theo. Laura on Vanessa. And Judy on Rudy.

I just wish the Huxtable kids were used like the Winslows kids, seeing them at the Movies, The Mall, Schoolyard, Friends house, and Sporting events. 90% of the time when we saw the huxtable kids they were in that house or in the backyard-lol |
