Default Barbara Walters was right when she said SCHOOLS shouldn't acknowledge Valentine's Day

Because you have the popular girls or boys getting Valentine's and then the unpopular boys and girls getting NOTHING and that it can be a very painful for a young boy or girl in middle school or highschool.

I know because I was one of them-lol VD waa so depressing to me in highschool and I can't believe they used to have a VD dance which was even worst.

Valentine's day sucks. None of us should acknowledge it. It' makes corporations rich while taking advantage of love and making those of us who have no one feel like ****.

I don't support a holiday like that. And I'm not looking forward to going into work on Valentine's day. The crowds are going to be atrocious. All I've got to say is we'd better get a bonus this month...

i think valentines day is probably one of the most pointless events in the calendar. why choose one day telling someone you love them and give them candy, flowers etc, when you can do this any time of the day. its all a money making scam. and unlike xmas for instance, it cannot be regarded as an actual tradition

my high school had a service that let you buy a decorated valentine's cookie for someone else in the school that would be delivered to them in class on valentine's day. i think something like that is as far as a school should go. i was bitter about it only last year, but just in the days preceding it because my best friend / ex / guy i liked (yeah all the same person) got me a teddy bear and a rose on his own time, so i was happy and unbitter about the holiday for the rest of the year.

So because some people don't have a relationship going on at a particular time, everyone else should feel sorry for them and not celebrate a romantic holiday with their special someone? That makes no sense at all.

You want a bad school V-day story? At my dump high school, the poetry club would order 50 million carnations and you can send one to either your friend or love interest or sex buddy, what-have-you. Well, I'm in the 10th grade and an I guess you can say "friend" decided to order some for her friends. Now keep in mind I ate lunch with her and hung out a couple of times after school. Well, she orders them and never states my name, but I thought she just wanted mine to be a suprise. Long story short I never got one and the friendship never lasted after sophmore year but it wasn't over a stupid flower.

I got the topic of your thread Solomon. But you know it will take a slight turn regarding the whole day of Valentines.

Anyhoo, back in the days, my school gave a list to each of the kids and we were to give EVRYONE a valentine.

As a matter of fact, my son will be giving out V.Cards to his classmates and the teacher gave us a list of each kid and emphasizing the importance of each child receiving one. It's common sense to me that you would not allow your child to give out V.Cards if you allow your child to omit anyone from their class. If the teachers enforce this early enough (pre-K, Kindergarten) there shouldn't be an issue.

I cannot believe any teacher would allow kids to give out cards and not include every kid in the class.

I think she meant Highschools rather than elementary school. I didn't know anything about VD when I was in grade 1st to 6th-lol

For example, my highschool had a VD dance and that was very depressing to me-lol

High schools??? I never gave out V.Cards in highschool. I never knew anyone in highschool who ever did that. I know we had the Booster Club sell carnations so people can send one to a friend or boyfriend/girlfriend or secret admirerer, but there was never exchanging of cards in highschool.

There were dances but if you didn't want to go to the dance, you didn't go. To me, they were no different than any other school dance.

I am sorry you felt left out of those things Solomon. That is an awful feeling I'm sure.
