Tanya and Jay. To the best of my knowledge, the case is still unsolved, unfortunately.

Ah yes, a really horrible case I wonder if it was actually the killer who wrote those letters or if it was just some psycho

Btw, this case is profiled in the book Murderers Among Us by Stephen G. Michaud and Hugh Aynesworth. I picked it up from Amazon for less than a buck

Yes I have that book as well and really enjoyed it. Those two authors also have a book titled "Wanted For Murder" that profiles some cases featured on UM like Greg Webb, Rick Church, David Gordon Smith and Leo Koury. Good read for a UM fan and cheap on Amazon.

Well the one thing about the letters: Clearly whoever wrote the letters went to great lengths to track down the addresses of Jay and Tanya's parents. They either called information or in some other way tracked down those addresses which wouldnt have been as easy to do in 1987 as it would be now.

The person writing the letters appeared to be on the move as the letters were postmarked from Seattle, Los Angeles and New York. I almost wonder if the person was perhaps a businessman or some type of traveler from work, possibly a truck driver or a traveling construction worker?

While there have been a ton of psychos over the years that have written these types of letters, I have just always had the feeling that the person that wrote these letters was the killer taunting the families. But that is just my gut feeling, obviously I have no proof this theory is true.

I actually read this book cover to cover by candlelight the week we didn't have power due to Hurricane Wilma. I remember the chapter on this case. However, I don't believe the letters/greeting cards were mentioned. I always thought this was an odd omission. The book came out a few years after UM aired the case, so I wonder if the letter angle was shown to fraudulent.

That was most likely the book I came across at my local library when I was working there during the early '90s. I didn't remember the title, but I remember that it included a number of cases that were profiled on UM. One of them was the Jay Cook and Tanya Van Cuylenborg double murder case.

I later learned that the book also features the December 1981 murders of Roxanne Jeeves and her son Kristopher Korper, a double homicide case in Texas that was eventually solved. UM aired a segment about that case in the spring of 1994.

I'm sure this was updated but the letter writer was found and turned out not to be the killer.

Here ya go Blackout:

http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/w...Van_Cuylenborg

They found him in August 2010. He was in his 70's and simply read about the mudrers in the newspaper, he apparently had severe mental issues but was very remorseful and asked for the forgiveness of the parents.
