Here's a "novel" way to gauge a U.S. city's level of passion: With Valentine's Day coming up, Amazon.com compiled its list of the Most Romantic Cities in America, based on per capita sales of romance novels and relationship and sex books since the start of 2008.
New York, by the way, didn't even crack the top 20 (out of 236 cities surveyed), while Salt Lake City was the place least interested in matters of the heart - its citizens bought the fewest love-themed tomes. 1. Alexandria, Va. 2. Cambridge, Mass. 3. Miami, Fla. 4. Irvine, Calif. 5. Ann Arbor, Mich. 6. Orlando, Fla. 7. Berkeley, Calif. 8. Scottsdale, Ariz. 9. Arlington, Va. 10. Atlanta, Ga. |

New York not on the list?
We've got romance coming out of our ass!

Living in Orlando, FL I can 100% guarantee there is nothing romantic about it! Unless theme parks turn you on.

They always say Paris is a romantic place to go. My mom said it's really gross over there, and FAR from romantic. She said she stepped off the train there and saw some guy peeing right next to her. I've also heard comments about Paris from a few friends and cousins too.

Ain't that the truth!! I live in E.Central Fla(not Bithlo!lol), and I, too, see nothing romantic about this area, as much as I do love living here. |

See, if that's the people who read the most about it, doesn't that make those the top ten least romantic cities? I think New York city would be the top of my list...I guess it's all in how you define romantic. But you can't beat the aura and heartbeat of that city...the theatres, the restaurants, the hotels, the lights... they don't need to read about it because it's all right there.

Yeah, there's lots of cute places. I never would have thought it until I started exploring the boroughs. For example, there's a great ice cream shop in Forest Hills where they make their own ice cream--it's a great place to take someone. Some nice restaurants in Park Slope.
New York's so big...so many nooks and crannies...esp. in the boroughs But, any city can be romantic...when you're with that someone special! |

No surprise Seattle isn't on the list.
No surprise about Salt Lake City, either. |

That list tells me more that those cities are full of dreamers and people who need help...not romantic people.

Besides, why do they even make this list? Just like the lists they make like "50 sexiest women ever". These are just opinions, sooo stupid. Someone may think a Port-a-Potty is romantic. Apparently, the people who make this list make them on their own, instead of going out into the public and asking people their opinions.

I agree with you. ANY city can be romantic-most have a charming spot or two--and WHAT really makes a setting romantic is being with someone special |
