Default Coping With Dr. Rob

Coping With Dr. Rob

Starring Ted Danson as Doctor Robert "Dr. Rob" Foster, a well-known and well-liked general practioner with his own practice downtown Boston. Rob may be a successful doctor, but outside of his job, his personal life has always been a rocky road. Rob has been married & divorced, remarried & divorced, remarried & divorced, and then remarried again. First off, Rob married his high school sweetheart and girlfriend, Marilyn (Marilu Henner) back in the day. Rob and Marilyn are the parents of their two grown children, Jennifer, 28 (Lindsay Sloane) and Tyler, 26 (Ryan Devlin). Rob's marriage to Marilyn was the longest marriage he has ever had and it lasted 12 years until they got divorced when Rob cheated on her with his fellow doctor colleague and then-mistress (which later turned into his second wife). Rob and Liz (Lorraine Bracco) got married shortly after his divorce from Marilyn was finalized. Rob and Liz's marriage lasted 5 years until they divorced when their marriage turned sour. Then Rob married his third wife, Marla (Edie Falco) who was a married patient of his and a obvious trophy wife who ended up leaving her rich husband to be with Rob. Rob and Marla's marriage last 6 years until they divorced when Marla felt she wasn't being "valued and loved" by Rob who put his career over his marriage. Rob later married a beautiful and much younger seamstress, Claire (Tricia O'Kelley). Rob and Claire's marriage, despite their 16 year-age difference, is going much better than all his past three marriage combined. Rob's ex-wives are always popping in and out of Rob's everyday lives, often much to his dismay. Marilyn remains in his life, due to being the mother of his two children. Liz remains in his life, due to being the Cheif of Surgery at the hospital where Dr. Rob is affiliated with. Marla remains in his life, due to being a crucial financial investor for Dr. Rob's private practice downtown (which started when they were married and papers never changed since the divorce). Also, Marilyn never remarried since her divorce from Rob. Liz later remarried a wealthy, elderly man who ended up dying on their honeymoon. Marla never married since the divorce, yet for the past six months, Marla has secretly been conducting a secret romantic relationship with Tyler (her ex-stepson)-which no one knows about but Marla and Tyler. Also, Tyler's older sister, Jennifer is engaged to a handsome ex-model/actor, Adam (Justin Chambers), of whom she is currently living with, despite her parents' request for her not to "live in sin" with her fiance. At Rob's practice, Rob works with his longtime nurse, Susan (Debra Jo Rupp) who is hardworking and very loyal to Rob, and happens to be a close friend of Rob's first ex-wife, Marilyn; and he hired his man-hungry, desperate-for-a-man sister-in-law (Claire's younger sister), Gwen (Alex Kapp Horner) to work as his office manager who happens to do more talking than working, and often lets her personal life shine through at work. Recently, upon request by Susan who has helped him through the stress of his success, his three divorces, and his recent nervous breakdown/mid-life crisis, Dr. Rob has been seeing a therapist, Dr. Kate Barnes (Jean Smart) who he goes to weekly and opens up to about his latest problems in his life. Dr. Kate and Dr. Rob's patient-doctor relationship soon escalates into a doctor-doctor friendship after his sessons are over. Watch how Dr. Rob Foster battles everyday life with his family, ex-wives, friends, and staff, along with the trials and tribulations of being a doctor going through therapy.

Default Episodes

Episodes

Ep1: Pilot Episode:
While he waits in the morning traffic jam on his way to his private practice downtown, Rob sits in his car and recaps his life (for the viewers) about his marriages and ex-wives, his children, his friends/staff members, and his career. When he gets at his practice, Susan informs him that somehow that day's schedule got overbooked and the whole day is going to be crazy, as where Claire stops in the office to talk with her sister, Gwen after hearing about her most recent breakup with former boyfriend Hank the lawyer.

Ep2: Announcements:
Rob is the last to find out about Jennifer's engagement to her boyfriend, Adam. Rob becomes furious when he learns he wasn't one of the first people told as he should have been, but ends up giving his blessing after a chat with Marilyn, Jennifer, and Claire. Meanwhile, Tyler and Marla decide to keep their "secret love affair" a secret from their family and friends, especially since Marla was his ex-stepmom eight years ago. Elsewhere, Susan regretting agrees to listen to Gwen as she vents about her boyfriend troubles, which leaves Susan with an earful and a headache.

Ep3: Relationships Of Awkwardness:
After having to perform an urgent appendicitis surgery on a teenage girl at Faith West Hospital, and having to put up with and deal with his ex-wife, Liz. Liz decides to step in and make Rob's life a living hell for that day while he's at the hospital performing the surgery on his patient. Rob, fed up with having to deal with "being on Liz's home-turf" and nothing he can do about it, decides to cancel rest of patients for the day and go to an early session with Dr. Barnes, who makes him really re-examine his relationship with Liz and find out where the true feelings of "hatred" stems from (if anywhere).

Ep4: Marilyn Has A Date?:
Susan accidently spills the beans about Marilyn confiding in her as she prepares for a date with a male friend-- her first date since her divorce from Rob twenty years ago. Jennifer and Tyler are glad to see their mom finally out dating since the divorce, but Rob is surprisingly jealous and doesn't want anyone to bring the topic of Marilyn dating up--which makes him confused. Later on, Rob meets again with Kate to discuss why he found himself jealous of Marilyn dating, especially since he is happily married with Claire. After he get home from his session with Kate, he comes home to a serious Claire- who announces she wants to have a baby, leaving Rob caught off guard and speechless.
