THE producers of "American Idol" are creating a new music-competition show - starring the kids of famous celebs.
Like "Idol," the show, with the working title "Rock the Cradle," will feature the talented offspring of performers facing off each week with songs, according to sources. MTV has been working on the show in secret with Fremantle Media, the producers of "Idol," for several months, the sources say. It is slated to debut some time in April. Only a few names of the celebrity children involved have trickled out. James Garfunkel, the 17-year-old son of music legend Art Garfunkel, is one of them. Most of the young celebs are still in talks with the network and have not been signed yet, says a studio insider. Even the title is not firm, the insider said. A formal announcement of the show could come as soon as next week. Reps for Fremantle and MTV declined to comment yesterday. MTV has gone the route of covering the lives of celebrity spawn before - although not in this fashion. In 2003, the network put together a show called "Rich Girls," which was supposed to be an ongoing series about the children of stars and how they do - or do not - capitalize on the fame of their parents. The show followed Jaime Gleicher, the daughter of the owner of Innovation Luggage, and Ally Hilfiger, daughter of famed sportswear designer Tommy. It never caught on and lasted only one season. http://www.nypost.com/seven/02082008...how_786669.htm |
