Default Tvland and Rare/Obscure series

Will TVland ever air any rare/obscure series again? They used have to those cool christmas marathons with one or two episodes of a rare show, or good old "fanhours" where the winner of the tvland contest thing would pick shows from the tvland vault...

Does anyone think any obscure stuff will air anymore? I personally feel probably not anytime soon.

Stick a fork in TVLand they are done. I find it a strange coincidence that TVL started going downhill as soon as the TV DVDs started to appear 2004/5

here we go again with another thread bashing TV LAND!

Unfortunately; they won't air any rare and obscure shows again; ever. I haven't heard that but I'm positive they won't.

They have these young people running things now, who care little or nothing about classic TV. Which accounts for all their crap.

Were the ratings just terrible on alot of the "lesser aired" things or what? How did the ratings for that "Kitschen" hour or whatever do? With reruns of Tabitha and such.

I thought the Kitschen was one of the better things TVL used to do. My favorite line-up was Superman-Batman-Shazam. Fun shows to watch from Midnight to 2pm on the weekends.

Yeah I remember the Kitschen, I used to watch on Saturday Nights when they aired Welcome Back Kotter in 2002

I loved the Kitschen SO much. It was my weekly ritual to watch "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" on Friday and Saturday nights, among the other goodies that would pop up. The Kitschen died when they decided to make it all Sid and Marty Krofft shows. I didn't have a problem with those shows, I just thought it was overkill to have the full two hours be them.

TVLand used to have all types of special blocks on a regular basis to showcase shows not on the channel. Box Sets were awesome, as was Sunday Best. By the time I got TVLand, the Ultimate Fan Hour was gone, but I caught it once at a friend's house in 2000 and it was great. The Kitschen and Better Living Through Television were awesome ways to showcase rarely seen shows as well. I loved waking up to "Hazel," "Father Knows Best," and all the others.

So I would say TV Land jumped the shark after 2002

Pretty much. And around the same time, when it was all still good, sometimes if a show did well on a special airing, it'd find its way on the regular schedule. That's exactly what happened with "Archie Bunker's Place," I believe. They aired it Box Sets every now and then, and then next thing you know, they started airing it in AITF's place on weekends. I believe it even ended up on the weekday schedule at one point. The same thing happened with the Krofft shows...they only did a special marathon of them once, but then they joined the regular sked as part of the Kitschen.

Hell, I believe that could have been the reason why shows like "Father Knows Best" and "Donna Reed" and "Hazel" and all then joined in June 2002. They frequently aired in Christmas marathons and other special one-off things and probably did well, hence why Donna got a weekday run in the Twice as Nice block.

DAMN, I miss those days. Back when Lucy and Beaver weren't the only all-B/W shows that aired during the week at good timeslots.

Seems that once a network goes downhill....it never climbs back up.

right; look at all the cable ones that have-AMC, TBS, VH1, MTV....the list goes on. Hell; the only good one is TCM-and hopefully, they'll never change!
