One of the funniest things I have read in a magazine was advice to a newlywed woman. The question was, "Should my husband come with me to watch chick flicks when I ask him to?" The advice was, 'Yes. If he was your boyfriend, no. He can be as free as he wants. But since he's your husband, you own his ass!

I'm not much of a magazine reader but I do find Dear Abby to be funny sometimes. Two of my favorite topics were:
The mailbox argument, A man and his wife wrote in because they couldn't agree on what the flag on the box was there for. He said it was there to alert the carrier that a letter was in the box to be mailed and she said it was there because the carrier was supposed to raise the flag to let them know that they had mail in the box. The great cereal and milk debate, This one got several replies when it first ran a few years ago. Another couple wanted to know if when fixing a bowl of cereal, Does the cereal go in first or the milk? Why they bother with some of these is beyond me but they're good for a laugh if nothing else.

I was surprised that a magazine for women in their 30's and 40's would give this advice!

I remember back in the day when I used to buy Seventeen magazine, there were some funny stories in there. One I can remember was this girl and her friend were in line at the grocery store and the one girl saw her crush and since she didn't want the guy to understand all the perverted stuff she was saying to her friend about him, she started to talk in french to her friend cuz they both spoke french. What she ended up finding out later was the guy WAS french and understood Every Word She Said!

Wow. It seems all magazines have these stereotypes and stuff in them, which is why i never purchase them. I've read so many "advice" articles saying things like men ALWAYS want to do this and women never want to do that and they always seem to describe stuff in black and white. The sad thing is people actually take those magazines seriously. I think they need to start posting "FICTION" on magazines. If you really want advice, go to a book store and read non-fiction books from professionals. In fact, the other day i was flipping through my sister's magazine collection of Seventeens and Glamour Girl, they all pretty much have the whole "guys only want one thing" idea throughout the magazine. Way to make young girls have a good and positive opinion on males. |
