Default Was the Education Background of Vera and Alice Discussed during the show??

Just wondering so I can make more sense of both of them working at the Diner for so many years and not branching off to something else. Wonder if it was discussed if they had their High School Diploma?

I am sure she didn't get far after high school, but I do know on the final episode when Mel sold his Diner and gave everyone a $5,000 farewell bonus, Vera became a stay-at-home mother. So she obviously wasn't skilled to do much else.

I'm sure Alice was a hs grad, but all those years of just being a housewife while Don was the breadwinner (and prolly one of those "my wife ain't gonna work while I'm alive" types), didn't exactly further her career aspirations.

You would think after 5 years of doing that kind of work she would have gotten sick of the low pay and Mel's controlling personality-lol

Alice's only goal was to be a singer. What education did she need for that? So it only makes sense for her to have worked as a waitress in a diner. She had no other aspirations. She kept having hope of making it big somewhere...

Alice got out of a controlling situation from her mom to a controlling husband. It sounds like Alice's marriage to Don was not that great from what was gathered about it in the first season.

Alice was in tunnel vision of being a singer. She was a high school graduate. She was going to night school. You remember her taking psychology and playing amateur psychlogist solving everyone's problems and sticking her nose in everyone's business. She was on the receiving end she did not like it and a few episodes showed that.

Yeah but to be over 30 and working everyday for a horrible pay at a small rinky dink diner for 10 years is just very sad. My goal is still to work in the media someday behind the scenes but while I'm still striving for that goal i'm not frying burgers at a diner-lol I still have a nice job as a employment advisor and live a comfortable life. I guess the character of Alice never showed any growth from season 1, just working in that diner and getting yelled at and working for a small pay.

I never got the idea that Don (Alice's husband) was ever controlling her. Alice talked abt him but I never heard her say that. Where did that come from?

My whole feeling is that Alice was a stay at home mom because she wanted to be with Tommy. Don made enough money so she could do that and have her aspirations for singing.
