Default Steve's parents really should have shown up in episode, "Number One With a Bullet"

I get the feeling the writers never wanted his parents to be seen. Steve passed out in the Winslow's home from appendictitis, went to the hospital, and the Winslows were the only ones that showed up to see him. No mention of where his parents were. That is a bad storyline. It's like they didn't care.

Also in this ep, Carl got shot in the butt. This should have been a serious episode and it was viewed as comic relief. I am not for dramatic scenes in sitcoms, but the main character got shot, could have died, and no one shed any tears. Were the writers amateurs?

Ya think?

I agree with you Kool. So stupid for this whole episode to have even been considered. Even if he got shot in the arm, there is a large arterial vein that you can bleed to death from.

Did they not want to hire two actors to play the parents? Were they that cheap? The parents would have had to have been called anyways by the hospital.

The way Family Matters was, I would have settled for someone playing a dual role to play Steve's parents.

Yeah, but they never wanted us to see them. It keeps the mystery.

I never understood why Steve's parents didn't like him. Steve was smart, caring, friendly. Yeah he may have been clumsy and annoying but he was an overall good kid. I was thinking the same thing why didn't they show up? Who paid the hospital bill, the Winslows?

I like to think that Steve's parents visited him at the hospital, we just didn't get to see it. But judging the way they obviously disliked their own son, who knows? I guess they would have paid the bills though. Steve had to be under their health insurance anyway, didn't he?

But why didn't they ever show Steve's parents, except that we heard his mother's voice once? Well, they were "unseen characters". Kel's parents on "Kenan and Kel" were never seen either, even though we saw Kenan's parents in every episode and Kenan's sister Kyra in most episodes. And on the britcom "Keeping up appearances", Hyacinth's and Richard's son Sheridan is never seen either. Even her sister Violet was an unseen character until the last season. My point is, some characters are unseen. They are talked about, but we never see them. I guess there's some kind of humor in that too, even though you really get curious about what they might look like.

And about Carl being shot in his butt, I actually seem to remember his family being worried about him. But when they understood, that he was going to be all right after all, they calmed down of course.

I always liked how (through dialogue) it was implied that they rolled out the Red Carpet for Stefan Urkal (?. I don't know how you spell it. The "cooler" version of Steve) when it applied . Now how someone can keep an ounce of self esteem going through something like that - who knows?

I think they just wanted to keep Steve's parents a mystery. Maybe the parents showed up but off screen. The writers should of had Steve say when the Winslows came that "oh you just missed my parents"

It is a shame before the Lord himself that the only time that Steve was introduced to his parents saw him as Stephan Urquelle for the first time?
