Thumbs up Vivian Vance's / Ethel's Hair Style. I love it!

I was wondering, I just love the style that both Lucy and Ethel had their hair! Is there a book on hairstyles of the '50's or something that I can get to see just how they did their hair?

I just love it.

I have no idea but i can tell you this much . . . Lucy was a frustrated hairdresser. She had a mini hair parlor at her house and loved nothing more than doing her own hair or that of her friends. She and Viv did that many times on weekends together. Lucy knew that when you found a style that was good for you, you stuck to it and found easier ways to get to that point every time. Lucy had beautiful natural hair but the reason she went to wigs later on was to save time during shows where her hair could get wet and the audience would have to wait for it to be rearranged for the next scene. Viv's blonde hair came out of a bottle also, like Lucy's came from the henna she stored in her garage. You're right, both looked great with their various styles over the years, people in books usually focus on their clothes rather than their hairstyles although the thread on the black wig here shows how it can change the overall look when you experiment with something different.

I think Vivian was prettier than Lucy. She was more of a natural beauty. You can see that she didn't need hours in the makeup room. Lucy had a better shape than Vivian, but it ends there.

True, whatever Lucy had, Viv always had so much MORE of it, LOL!

True, and they still managed to change them a lot over the decades and still look great, BOTH of them.

I don't know, I think Ethel could have been even prettier with a better hairstyle.

If you really want to know how important nicely arranged hair is, look at the Oscars Sunday night, did you ever see so many mops that should have been in pails of water? I swear to God, and they paid stylists to fix themselves like that too!

I didn't watch it. I'll have to catch one of those 20,865 recap shows I guess.

I agree with you. Remember the good ol' days when female celebs actually looked like they had their hair washed and styled and there wasn't a stray hair outta place? Now, the hair sometimes looks dirty (unwashed) and to think they paid hundreds of dollars to have a messed up look!

Exactly, did you ever see the beautiful Lucie Arnaz at the last TV Land awards that paid tribute to Lucy? You wonder if they cut their hair with lawn mowers or something.

I wasn't much for lucy's hair in The Lucy-Desi Comedy hour, i prefer her style in the I Love Lucy eppy's.
