I'm not an expert on the Partridge Family episodes, but if I recall- the songs performed in the TV episodes are not the full versions and if you wanted to hear the whole song you had to go to the record store and buy the album. Is that correct?

I never really got much into the Partridge Family show, but I do have uncut episodes of David's other TV show, David Cassidy Man Undercover. This isn't the greatest show either, but it's interesting to see Cassidy in a dramatic role playing a cop as opposed to his sitcom character in the Partridge Family.

For the most part the songs were complete in the tv shows. On CD most of the songs seem to last between 2 and 3 minutes only as I recall.

Not all of them used the complete song in the show. Two examples that immediately come to mind are:
"I Think I Love You" - each time this song appeared, the line "I don't know what I'm up against, I don't know what it's all about, I've got so much to think about..." is not included. "It's One of Those Nights" - appeared in the series only once, and the two instances after the chorus that go "Aah, Aaaahhhhhhhhh, yes love, you know I did before" is not included. |

I noticed that in "Dora, Dora, Dora" - "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" was missing the 2nd verse. It just had the first chorus and then it went into the bridge "Do dreams come true, well if they do, then I'll have you...."
Yes, for the most part the songs are pretty much complete (maybe the ending fades are covered by audience noise if they're at a performance) Some of the songs in the show are also in different mixes than the "recordings on the CDs" -- Example: "Singing My Song" has some electric guitar soloing in the acoustic guitar intro on the CD (Album version) as well as just a "solo" vocal from David --> Whereas on the episodes "Go Directly To Jail" and "Star Quality" -- the guitar soloing is missing from the intro. - and the first lines are sung by David along with the background vocalists (ie. "The Family"). I was thinking maybe it was a Stereo vs Mono mix -- or maybe they just remixed it for the albums. |

In my opinion, this is not that great a show to begin with so the least they could have done is use the full versions of all the songs in the episodes. I have the Partridge Family albums, the majority of the songs are short, under 3 minutes and the few longer ones are only about 3:30 or so. I see no reason then why they couldn't have used unedited versions of the songs. To me, putting edited versions of the songs in the TV episodes shows disrespect to the music. |
