Veteran funnyman Bill Cosby's mother begged him to quit show business for a "proper" career and even left him money in her will in case he failed. The TV star was already hugely successful and a multi-millionaire when his mother Anna passed away in 1991, but she was still convinced he would never make it.

Cosby jokes, "No matter how big you get in the business, I think your mother never believes you're going to make it. All mothers would sooner you just pulled out now. She begged me to quit. My mother never had a job in her life. We wrote her cheques, so she never wanted for anything. When she died, in her will she handed out money I gave her. She gave me $48,000 'so that he will have something to fall back on'."

His mother should've had faith in him that he was gonna make it in showbiz. That was nice of her to leave him money in her will and he didn't take it.

What's funny though is that even AFTER he was successful and had MILLIONS, she still didn't believe he could "make it"...

I guess she comes from an era that one needs a steady career such as a teacher, a doctor, something to that effect to make it in this world. She probably felt at any moment he would not have anymore work as far as being a comedian or actor and blow his money away.

What a sweetheart she must have been.
