Default Gyllenhaal Distraught Over Ledger Death

Gyllenhaal Distraught Over Ledger Death

(Jan. 30) -- Jake Gyllenhaal is taking the death of Heath Ledger "harder than most people," as Ledger's "Brokeback Mountain" co-star and the godfather of his daughter tries to make sense of the sudden death.

PEOPLE, citing a source on the set of Gyllenhaal's latest movie, "Brothers," says that the actor is very distraught over the news, and that he left the set immediately when he learned of Ledger's passing.

The Life and Loss Of a Young Talent

Jake Gyllenhaal is reportedly taking the death of Heath Ledger "harder than most people," according to a PEOPLE source. Gyllenhaal is the godfather of Ledger's daughter, Matilda, and became close friends with him after co-starring together in 'Brokeback Mountain.'

"This has had a strong personal affect" on Gyllenhaal, the source says.

After leaving the set, Gyllenhaal then returned, but the source says it was obvious he was only there physically.

"He was there, but he wasn't with us. It was obviously a major trauma," the source says, adding that Gyllenhaal was "sitting in the director's chair staring off into space."

Ledger and Gyllenhaal shared the screen in "Brokeback Mountain," in which they played two cowboys who become romantically involved and are forced to hide their relationship. Ledger met Michelle Williams on the same set, with whom he had a daughter, Matilda, that Gyllenhall became the godfather of.

well I can't blame him. I mean this must be really tough for him especially since Heath made him the godfather for his daughter. I hope he feels better.

I can only imagine the pain and grief he's feeling I pray he finds comfort and healing in his beautiful goddaughter Matilda.

I was wondering how Jake was taking the death. I knew him and Heath were very good friends even before BBM. Even tho I could only imagine the awkwardness of filming love scenes with one of your best friends

Yeah, I'm sure it was awkward filming those scenes, but I'm sure they had fun with it afterwards. Joking at parties, making fake passes at each other, taking a lot of good-natured ribbing from friends, that sort of thing, lol. It's still so hard to believe that Heath is gone, looking at him smiling in those pictures. It's so heartbreaking.

I read this and I felt so bad for Jake. I knew it would be really hard on him.
