Can someone identify this segment?

from 11/9/88 - the search by a British woman, now 45, for her American military-officer father

On the Lifetime version of this episode, they served up the Steve Hadley case from special six. Does anyone recall the story mentioned above?

I'm not a lost loves fan by any stretch, but this one doesn't even remotely sound familiar. I'm guessing we have another "lost" segment here. The Lifetime version is true to the description except for the misplaced Hadley story.

it looks like most of the lost segments are from the first season, 1988-1989, so with that being said, there's a good chance in never made it to Lifetime. But I'm like you, I don't pay as much attention to lost loves usually.

well, the person I was telling you about that had the complete episodes abruptly cut off contact with me. Call me absolutely nuts, but I posted to Craigslist in Boulder, CO (where JonBenet Ramsey lived) and in Bradeton, Flordia (where Todd McAffee lived) as I figured someone that lived in the area may have the segments, but no luck. Also, apparently Craiglist does not like people posting in areas where they don't live, which I don't understand.

LOL. Dude, I have to laugh because I thought of doing something like this. Putting an ad in the paper or something just asking if anyone has old UM tapes. I didn't think about Craigslist. That's funny. Sorry it didn't work.

I have two leads on various episodes right now. One is a bit on the expensive side though. I'm trying.

Too bad we can't storm that place in Hollywood (a museum of some kind) that supposedly has a copy of every episode of anything that ever aired, ever. From what I hear, you can go there and request to view anything, and they bring it to you (for in-house viewing only, of course). Me, I want to see the entire 13 episode run of the long-lost failed Cheers spinoff The Tortellis. Nick Tortelli was such a great character.

Some people are very reasonable when it comes to selling episodes of various shows, other people are completely insane. Here is a good example. I have all 21 episodes of an hourlong drama from 1996 called Second Noah. I went to bizarro SO (imdb) to try and strike up some trades for it (i got one). anyways, looking at some old posts, there was one lady who needed some episodes, managed to get them from someone, and turned right around and attempted to sell the set for like $150. completely absurd. I removed all of my trade offers, as apparently imdb does not like people doing that. So many obstacles in trading/buying homebrew dvd sets.

True about the expensive sets. I think it is especially skeezy trying to make money off UM given the subject matter.

I don't get it. It seems like just about every other screwball show one can imagine is out there, but not UM. It is very frustrating reading about some of these segments and knowing we'll probably never see all of them.

^ Well just to be fair, they are out there just not complete seasons. Probably the "Holy Grails" for me would be an NBC sourced Special 4 and an NBC sourced S1 E1 (Gail DeLano, Gulf Breeze etc.) - I'm sure there would be others on your "wish list" too.

I just think due to its unconventional nature most people didn't tape UM off the air like they did other shows. We are really lucky that you managed to find those specials (and not only find them but in good quality) cause there is no guarantee they will ever be reaired anywhere.

As someone who has done quite a bit of tape trading I can't really complain - the one season wonders and rarities are out there for the most part although there are a few shows (because of a particular actor I like) that I would love to see but I doubt were ever taped by anyone.

Well, I understand what you're saying, and I don't want to come across as though I am not happy with what has been unearthed thus far. I have over fifty DVDs of complete NBC episodes, and I am glad to have them. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would have as much as I do. I do trade for other non-UM related shows and movies, but UM will always be a top priority when trading is concerned. I can't exactly explain in words why this show has a hold on me or why it has been such a passion of mine for so many years now. It is what it is, I guess. That is why when I read about some of these unaired segments I really want to find them because I have never seen them before, and it is cool to find out there are still episodes out there that you have not seen when you think you have seen them all.

On the other hand, I realize it is such an eclectic show. It is also not episodic, so I can see why it wasn't taped by many people. I also think it's long syndication run probably didn't help too much either. There was a lot of overlap between NBC airing new episodes and Lifetime airing old ones, so that, in a way, the show was always "available", so why tape it?

BTW, I should be getting the Ed Barbara goldmine fraud segment soon. It's off to Crystaldawn after that.

I spoke with a trader last night about special 4. At first he said he thought it was an NBC airing, but checked and it was Lifetime. so we're out of luck there.

If the rare segments exist out there somewhere, the people that own them are probably unaware of it. While few people taped UM to intentionally save it, there is a better chance than someone taped it and intended to watch it just once, then put the tape in a drawer and forgot about it, perhaps meaning to tape over it one day but never got around to it.
