Has anyone noticed that in the early seasons of the show Vint seemed pretty smart, when Buzz and Sonia were on the show, but, as soon as he married Naomi he seemed to get more goofy and dumb?

Yes. When the show left the network and went into syndication, Vint took a stupid pill, bless him. The show took a dramatic turn away from the original idea of the show back when it was a skit on "The Carol Burnett Show".
You can view the TV movie "Eunice" in it's entirety on YouTube, which gives you some idea how far removed the syndicated shows were from what Carol had originally invisioned. Here are links for all 9 parts of "Eunice": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKHubzv5Mcs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Nc72f_UM4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtml0r37BTY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVC98tTA9Tg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONBGfI1t7SE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDY4XS7buug http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9rowU6iaHM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBkzPmEnsa4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uvK5vvoWE0 Well worh taking the time to watch before they take it down, parts 7-9 especially. Enjoy. |

Yeah! I remember a few Carol Burnett Show sketches with Vint, and he was always a bigshot artist or business owner.

Hello. Yes, his name was Phillip in the skits on The Carol Burnett Show and he was a famous and successful writer.

Hmmm, they changed Vint's name and career and personality. Sounds like something that would happen on the Golden Girls.

I liked the dumb Vint. He blended in more with Naomi and I loved mama's jokes towards him. Made the show just that more funny.

ITA! I think it was funnier and Vint just seemed more like the country rube than the sophisticated writer, kwim? I've had the same argument about Frazier's dad but that's another board, LOL! I loved this scene where they're at Chez Ray where Ellen is on a date with a younger man... Vint: Hey Fran, how do you say this? Fran: Moon-yer. Waiter: Are we ready to order? Vint: I'll have this Trout Manure..
