Default Dance Like There's No Tomorrow-- Paula's comeback?

I can't believe no one has posted about this. Paula has just released her first song in more ten years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdYHnvPXKeg

It's available for purchase on iTunes as well.

and I notice there's still a lot of studio magic with her vocals, it's so overdubbed it's not even funny

Hasn't her music always been like that?

yes, but I think the fact that she's now associated with American Idol makes it even harder for her, since she tells people on a weekly basis that they can or cannot sing, and it worked fine for the teens of today since they don't remember her heyday. I think it's very brave of her to come back as a singer while Idol is still on the air, with the criticism her voice has had since she first came onto the scene.

I guess that's the reason why she's never been too critical with the contestants. But it's not like she came into business looking to become a singer, it just sort of "happened."

I think the song will be huge on the dance chart, but since Paula's a 40-something who was big in the 1980's, I doubt she'll have a huge hit in America considering Janet can't even get past #51 on the singles chart

It's two different situations though. I could actually see why Janet is flopping... people are just fed up with her putting out crap for the last few years and they're not willing to give "Feedback" a fair chance as a result.

But since 2003 people have asked Paula to make a return to music yet she hesitated until now. Plus "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" is more a one-time thing and because of that radio is likely to be receptive towards it.

true, but Paula is over 40, which is pretty much the death knell for Top 40 radio, so she'll probably see her best support on Dance stations, which still support people like Madonna and Janet as if it was still 1986. The album market is really the only outlet 80's stars can still prosper at because recordbuyers don't age-discriminate the way radio programmers do. I think the song is a sure #1 hit on the Dance charts and on Dance Airplay, and that's really all you can expect from someone like Paula Abdul in 2008.
