Goober's personality on R.F.D.

It is often discussed as to how Andy Taylor's personality changed over the course of TAGS from hick, to logical & laid back, to grumpy. But didn't Goober's personality change on MRFD as time went on. He seemed the same as on TAGS in the first few episodes, but later I seem to recall he was a little more witty and a better conversationalist. Well, I found an old VHS tape of some RFD episodes today and I browsed through them.
He no longer wore his pants high, he just wore them regularly, which made him look a bit husky and cooler. He also didn't wear that goofy, "Goober character" look on his face all the time, he just had a normal expression, which also made him look cooler. He also din't talk as goofy as on TAGS; he talked in a more regular tone.
I watched a few minutes of an episode where Goober was towing in a girl's car that had broken down. Howard was there and asked, "What do you surmise happened?" Goober looked at Howard like he were a nut and said, "Well, I surmise it quit running." The old Goober would have had trouble with the word "surmise" and would have said something silly in response. Also, the girl asked how she would get home. Howard said he had a bus schedule. Goober said to Howard, "Can't you tell when a girl's hinting for a ride?" Goober was actually giving advice instead of getting it.
Also, Wally's had changed locations. When Goober pulled up in the truck, he was coming down a street in town and you could see town buildings in the back when he pulled into Wally's.

I agree, I definitely think Goober got smarter by the time this show came along. It suited him too.

I liked the dumb/goofy Goober as he was originally portrayed.

Hard for me to believe that I don't think I've seen a single episode of Mayberry RFD in the over 40 years since the show first aired... looking forward to that very soon, and one feature of interest will be to see this evolution in Goober's character you describe.

And... Wally's Service Station changes location? Part of my interest in watching the AGS these days is observing the 40 Acres set, while I understand during Mayberry RFD the location for the town was changed... and I remember virtually nothing of this in my memories of watching the series way back when, since when I was a kid this wasn't something I'd even have focused on.

Anyway, iI'm new around here, and am enjoying delving into the archives... plenty of great reading here!
