Default 'Sex And The City: The Movie' Was Planned Before TV Show's End

The cast of Sex and the City had all signed contracts to appear in the movie version before the hit show had even finished its TV run.

Kristin Davis, who will revive her role as Charlotte York in the big screen version of the program, admits the film was given the go ahead before they knew the series was coming to an end - but was delayed due to problems with the script.

It had been rumored the delay in taking the show to the silver screen was down to a rift between the four lead actresses - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kirsten Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall - and arguments over money.

But Davis insists the cast had always intended to make the movie - they just had to wait for the show's producer, Michael Patrick King, to have a second script approved.

She says, "We had a contract to do the film even before the show ended and we were all so sad when it didn't happen. Now Michael has written another script.

He wants Sex and the City to be now, so it is very much set in 2008 - three years later in their lives."

I knew there was talk about a movie but never knew they signed onto it before the show ended. I remember in summer 2004, Kim Cattrall backed out of the movie, and Sarah Jessica Parker repeatedly said in interviews that there'd be no reunions when promoting "The Family Stone", so I always assumed that it was just talk until they finally signed on to the movie.

Yes, I never knew this either. Thanks for all the updates Brian. Looking forward to the movie.

Is this movie done, in production or what? I've been hearing about it forever. They better get going or they're going to have to call it, 'Golden Girls And The City', lol.

yep, it's supposed to hit theaters on May 30th. There's a deal for two more movies as well. Kim Cattrall is already 51.

Of course, in 20 years it'd be funny to revisit SATC and they are in fact The Golden Girls, sharing a house together

I'm really looking forward to it. 98% of the time I watch movies on DVD at home. But this will be fun to see full screen. I love many of the characters and actors on the show, and since the same ones will be there it's unlikely to be a turkey.

I am someone who usually doesn't mind the 3 month wait for DVD, but as a fan of the show for a decade, I want to support the movie so we'll get the followups. Plus, I can't wait to see further adventures of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. It's been four years, I've missed those girls. Granted, we have DVD's and reruns, but it's great to see them again.

Yeah, same here. I'm glad I bought the entire series in one fell swoop.
