Default Missing Lady From Montana

Do you recall a case that happened in the late 80's or early 90's of a lady named Patricia (I can't remember her last name). She got into a car accident on the freeway and when the people stopped she fled the scene on foot into the Montana plains. Do you think this woman is still alive? I don't. Take the time of year, I think it was in October or November it gets cold out there at night, and she didn't have a coat on her or anything. She didn't have a toothbrush, change of clothes, food, water or anything like that. It was claimed by a waitress in a nearby town that she was spotted in a restaurant the following morning and ordered some breakfast. The waitress claimed that she acted funny when she waited on her, and wanted to get in and out of the restaurant fast because she wanted to "go shopping". Why would anyone be in that much of a hurry if they were just going shopping? People have also claimed to have seen her at truck stops getting rides with truckers. If she lives in MT, why would she want to go trucking around the United States? Why hasn't she contacted her family in all of these years if she's still alive? That is why I think she's dead. She may have hitched a ride with the wrong trucker and ended up getting killed somewhere. I hope that I'm wrong and that she is alive somewhere, but I have a bad feeling that she is deceased.

last name of Meehan. If that was her in the restaurant, I think the shopping thing was a lie, she probably didn't want to reveal where she was really going. Or if she had amnesia, maybe she thought she was going shopping.?

AUGH! I hate having a 9 to 5 job! I would have loved to have responded to this one first... ohh well.

Yes, her name was Patricia Meehan. She disappeared near Circle, Montana and I believe the last confirmed signting of her was in Bozeman, MT. The picture I use for my avatar is a self-portrait of herself that she took shortly before she went missing.

I tend to believe that Patricia really was sighted after the accident. I'd love to see this mystery solved, but I tend to agree with you, lilmissd. I think she either fell victim to the harsh Montana elements (TRUST ME, they can be harsh! It was -50 in some parts of Montana today when you factored in the wind chill.) or she met with foul play.

I just watched this segment and I think that Patricia had psychological problems which preceded the car accident that was caused by her erratic driving. Going by the incident in the cafe (if that was indeed her), I think that she may have had some kind of psychotic disorder rather than amnesia.

I hate to admit it, but I agree with lilmissd- I think she probably succumbed to the weather. And yes, she was reportedly spotted by numerous people, but if you recall Dan Wilson, another person who disappeared on the Montana plains, was also identified by many people claiming to have seen him, yet it turned out he wandered away from his car and died of exposure.

One thing about this story I always found peculiar- early in the segment Stack said Peggy Bueller was driving from Circle to “nearby Great Falls.” Circle is about 300 miles east of Great Falls.

For people in rural areas, "nearby" doesn't mean the same thing as it might to someone in a much more populated area. Still, 300 miles is a 5 or so hour trip by car.

I agree that she very likely succumbed to the elements. Too, the area she disappeared in is rather vast and empty -- but by no means just a flat prairie. I'm reminded of Michael Henley, who disappeared from a campsite and whose body was found not all that far away -- it's easy to miss someone even when you are looking for them.

The big hole in the theory that Meehan walked to a truck stop and hitched a ride is that Circle, MT is a good 20-25 miles from the nearest truck stop in Glendive, MT, down a desolate road with almost no services open in the middle of the night. Even if she hadn't walked in the opposite direction from the road, and even if she'd been on the correct road (the road from Circle to Great Falls doesn't go through Glendive), it's hard to imagine she survived that trek.

I don't believe her profile would still be on charleyproject if she was alive and well and using her real name.

I really believe it was Patricia in the restaurant because the waitress knew her by name and called her "Patty" in the segment and knew what time she came in because she knew that patty would normally have to be to work by 9:00 am, we have to suspect she'd been there before and the waitress knew her well. It has been stated that she said it was about 8:40 when "patty" came in and wanted to be waited on and served quickly, so I do believe it really was her, too bad we have no idea what happened to her after she left the restaurant!

I'd LOVE to agree with you....but I don't Eye-witness testimony has been famously incorrect in tons of cases, including many featured on UM. I think she either died of exposure, OR, there was the unidentified Jane Doe found in Canada, and the composite looks a lot like her. Someone from this site or another made the connection and contacting the authorities and, to my knowledge, nothing came of it or at least not that anyone is aware of.
