Default Season 1 Question

I bought season 1 DVD Friday, and I thought that I would watch it on the plane and in my hotel this weekend. I am enjoying the first season, BUT I’ve noticed that Florence was't really a part of the cast in the first season.

Now this morning I was on the plane going back home and I noticed that so far in my watching the season from the beginning to the end without skipping any episodes. I have seen Florence a total of 3 times I believe, and her scenes weren't long. I‘ve gotten the the 8th episode, I only have like 2 more to go before I finish the DVD.

So my question is when does Florence (Marla) join the cast, what episode?

She Started To Become a Big Part Of the Cast At the start Of Season 3
She Wasn't Credited Until Season 4

Really? For some reason I thought that she became a regular cast member earlier than that.

I think once Zara Cully became ill, they needed someone to fill her gap in the cast, which is why she became a regular in season 4. She was in most season 3 episodes and a lot of season 2 episodes, though.

She moved in with the Jefferson in the 3rd season? Goodness, I don't know why I thought that she moved in with them in the 1st season. No wonder I was confused as to why I didn't see Florence hardly on the 1st season DVD.

Thanks everyone for the insight.

Yup she moved in with them in the fall of 1976. Florence is only seen three times in season 1

So Diane was cleaning the Jefferson’s house and the Willis’ house?

Diane was never seen again after the first episode. She was supposed to be the Jeffersons maid but the actress never was seen again

In the episode about George trying to get his story into the newspaper. Louise said that Diane was sick so they had to call Florence in to help serve. So I'm taking it that Diane was the Jeffersons maid.

That is how they wrote Diane out of the show. Funny that Florence is referred to as being as a terrible maid by George in that episode- she was much worse in later episodes. Interesting also that Florence was in more episodes in year 3 (all but 5 eps) than any of the supporting characters whose names were seen in the main titles. Considering that year 3 has a scene of her in the opening it would seem that they didn't have the $$$ to credit her as a regular. I read that during the first 2 seasons Marla Gibbs didn't have a regular contract with the show and kept her job at the phone company on the East Coast "just in case".

Ok I didn't catch that so that means she was the Jeffersons OFF SCREEN Maid also
