i did and OMG, that was such a horrid movie. total crap. don't know WTF robin williams was thinking of when he accepted a role in this **** fest. i think from then on, his career went downhill after he starred in films like that, -although he did redeem himself with one hour photo and insomnia- which were two really good movies

I liked some elements of the film: the definition of life, a 200 year long journey, watching everyone you know grow old and pass when you knew you couldn't.
It was an interesting movie. It had flaws, and you certainly have to have a good deal of patience to enjoy it. One of the reasons I didn't like it the first time I saw it, is I was much younger, and I thought it was going to be something different: robot discovers he's alive, family believes him, company wants to destroy him, grand adventure. I don't know why I thought that. Today I can enjoy it. |

a good review and **1/2 (on a scale of BOMB to ****). He said, in part: "Sincere, sentimental, but goes for the jokes too often. Williams is good as the robot, too familiar when he becomes human. From a short story by Isaac Asimov and a novel by Asimov and Robert Silverberg." I don't always agree with Maltin (he was one of the few people who didn't like the Oscar-winning "Forrest Gump"; that's how tough a critic he is); but this time I concur. "Bicentennial Man" was, in my opinion, one of Williams' better performances. |

I am glad there are a couple of people on this thread who like this movie, becasue I didn't want to be the only one in the minority.
I like this move. Sure it drags in some spots, and Robin Williams is probably a little too old for the role, not to mention I really don't like it when he turns on the shmaltz, but as Max pointed out, it's an interesting story, plus it has some interesting things to say about humanity and what it means to be human. |

Maybe Id like it better if i saw it now, cause I was 11 when I saw it in theaters and expected it to be a sci fi comedy cause thats how it was marketed. There were some cool things in it, like showing him age and stuff, but yeah. I may watch it again to see if I like it now
