Annie Lennox was left devastated after she was dropped from her record label - and has branded the move a "kick in the teeth". The former Eurythmics star was stunned when Sony BMG stopped answering her phone calls just weeks before her contract was due to expire. Lennox, 53, insists she was shocked at the way she was treated by the company which once hailed her as "one of the finest musical voices of the age". She says, "They totally ignored me. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn't return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I'm trying to find out what's behind it. "Probably a good thing I'm no longer with them - mild understatement. Unless it's them trying to tell me something... Hello!" The singer admits she has been left contemplating her future in the music industry. She adds, "It feels like I'm spent, as if I've completely run out of energy. I'm going to take my time over the coming months to figure out what to do with this freedom." Lennox's last album, Songs of Mass Destruction, charted at number nine in the Billboard 200 chart in October 2007, selling a healthy 78,000 copies during its first week of release in the U.S. http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna...ml&e=l_news_dm |

that's a shame, she's such a talented artist, and Songs Of Mass Destruction is every bit as good as her work with Eurythmics

I just read the following at Popjustice
Her label have issued a statement saying that while she's reached the end of her contract she hasn't in fact been dropped and if she would like to sign a new contract with them they would be very happy. Makes sense, because while SOMD hasn't been a huge seller, it's done well enough in this day and age considering the singles got no radio airplay and even VH1 didn't back the Dark Road video, and VH1 used to play her to death. |

That's too bad - hopefully soon she'll hook up with another company and continue to make quality music!!

She has such a great voice, surely she'll find a company that will take her on board.

Any label that would drop Annie Lennox must have their head up their-- hey, hey!!
Seriously, there was once a time when labels had "prestige artists," artists who didn't sell many records, but were critically hailed and had cult followings. Those days are gone. I'm sure Ms. Lennox will be able to find another label. A worthy label. She is a major talent, to be sure. |
