Default Sylvester Stallone Wants to Remake Death Wish

Sylvester Stallone has brought back his two beloved franchises, Rocky and Rambo. Now he's working on someone else's. However, his idea for a Death Wish remake is to tackle the sort of corporate criminals that Charles Bronson never imagined.

"I think Death Wish, if it were done today, would be volcanic," said Stallone. "The idea of Jeff Goldblum being a mugger who breaks into an apartment is very simplistic. It gives you an idea how bad the elevation of violence has become. I would focus on defense attorneys, I would focus on [the people] allowing this crap to happen, not so much the guy on the street. It's like, who permits it? What if it happened to you, that your daughter was grabbed and her eyes were put out? Would you want to sit there and defend that guy? So there's moral questions here that are being presented that have not been answered in 30 years."

A vigilante character Stallone would play would not be the frustrated pacifist that Bronson was either. "I'll give you a little hint. He was a very violent human being, completely violent, an ex-convict who walked the walk, was accepted back into society and did everything he could to be a [good person]. Like these thieves and junkies who now work on the side of the law, they've gone that way, but when something happens he reverts back to that guy."

That sounds more like a kick ass Stallone type of guy. "So now you've unleashed a man who really understands the world of violence. He isn't burdened with this passive-aggressive, conscientious-objector kind of thing. That's been done. It's like what happens when the wolf has gone from wolf to wolf in sheep's clothing back to the wolf. Now the fellow on the street has a problem because he knows how to deal with that kind of mentality because he was a prisoner. So it would be a different take."

It's bad enough Sly is rehashing his old Rocky & Rambo franchises to prop up his career, which is pretty much over, but now he wants to revive Charles Bronson's franchise??

I loved Death Wish, but they really beat that character into the ground. It just got silly and to the point where if someone looked at Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) wrong, he'd kill them.

Enough retreads! Leave the old movies alone! Jeez!

I really like Sylvester Stallone but I hate remakes of any movie! Leave the old movies alone and do your own thing.

My sentiments exactly. Death Wish had one of the most violent acts perpetrated on two females that I have ever seen on screen. It wasn't meant to glorify, it wasn't meant to be subtle, it was meant to be realistic. That scene in that movie is embedded in my mind.

Sylvester Stallone will glorify that moment, I know he will. He will make it more sadistic just to pull at our heart strings. The original movie made its point and the sequels just ruined the Paul Kersey character. It turned into a satire. That is what Sly will also end up doing.

Well, everything these days has to be extreme and over-the-top. Most action movies are nothing but noise - gunfire and big explosions. It seems like they try to top each other by being bigger and louder. Unfortunately, subtlety and nuance are largely gone from today's action movie. You can interchange actors - doesn't matter who it is - and it's the same movie.

Bronson did run Paul Kersey into the ground - once again, I agree with my old friend Irene on something! The first two weren't bad, but after that, he just moved on to a new city - or moved back to an old one and just kept blowing away the punks. Hell, he was seen in the Chicago airport at the end of the first movie, but by the time they made the second one, he'd already moved on to Los Angeles. I'm surprised we never got to see him wipe out Chicago's punks.

Oh, dear, Stalone. This man doesn't know when to quit, does he? He is like a tired old horse ready to put be to stud, but doesn't realize that his time was over 16 years ago. He is like the Energizer Bunny running on diesel. It's rusty and old, but it's Stalone.

Last night, AMC aired the laughably titled Death Wish V: The Face Of Death, Bronson's final film playing Paul Kersey. I had never seen this film for some reason. I caught the very end of the movie and then the beginning, as they replayed it back-to-back. After seeing the first 15 minutes, where Bronson's girlfriend is disfigured, I went to bed. I've seen this movie before, just not this particular installment. If ya know what I mean.

I always loved the gag on The Simpsons where they make a reference to one of the Death Wish films playing on TV. They then cut to a cartoon Paul Kersey lying on a hospital bed, saying "I wish I was dead." Classic bit.

Interesting concept, but I agree that the remake thing is done to death, pardon the pun.

If Stallone wants to revive an old character, he should do a sequel to "Nighthawks," one of my favorite Stallone films.

Ohhh, I have to agree there! Nighthawks was awesome...too bad the girl that played 'Shaka Holland' died.

Too late, Dolly been Barbie-fied. She defined gravity and Stalone aged like a pro-wrestler on steroids.
