Default Which single mother stuggled more, Ann Romano, or Alice Hyatt?

That is a tough one, but I will say Alice, because she had a lame job and a much smaller apartment.

Alice. She was a widow and didn't have her man around to be a father to her son. Ann was divorced, the girls still had their father. I feel more for Alice.

I haven't seen One Day at A Time in a while, but I think Ann had a decent job.

Alice. Ann found her calling and became a career woman and wanted for nothing after she went into business

I'm still trying to figure out how Ann got a fantastic advertising job when she married right out of high school, had kids, and never went to college. I have to go with the majority here - Alice had it tougher.

Who's Alice?

I'm going to vote for Ann because she is the best single mom in the history of television. And she did have it pretty hard with Julie.

Alice Hyatt was the lead character of the 1976-85 CBS sitcom Alice. It starred Linda Lavin as a single mom of a young son, who worked as a waitress. It was also based on a 1974 movie called Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Ellen Burstyn in the title role. She also won the Oscar for this movie.

Oh, that Alice. I've never seen that series. I've seen the film though quite a few times being that I'm such a big Scorsese fan.

They do air reruns of Alice on the ION network. Vic Tayback reprised his role as Mel Sharples, and picked up a couple of Golden Globes.

Which would be great if I got the ION network.

I don't have it either, Mike. I have checked out the Alice DVD from the library (6 episodes are on it) and I used to watch the reruns when they aired on one of our local stations in the 1980s. Mel was the man - he was so funny!!!

Okay, that is the show with Nancy's brother on it. I knew that he was on a series during the 1970's. I just didn't know which one.
