First plane ride - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

How was your first plane ride? (or any plane rides you've had) Were you scared of being in the air? Did you sit by annoying people?

I've never flown before, but i may have to sometime soon and i was wondering how it is. I think the main problem is i'll be bored because the flight i might go on is about 5-6 hours long. Another fear is sitting by a screaming kid

My first plane ride was in 1998. I was 18, almost 19. My family and I were flying to California for vacation. It was a good flight but I was so nervous!! Since then I've flown west several more times, to visit friends. I still don't love flying, but I'm nowhere near as petrified as I used to be!

One thing I hate about air travel is that there is no leg room for people like me. I'm tall, 5'8", and I have very long legs. That tends to make long cross-country flights very uncomfortable.

That's terrible, i know so many people who are over 6 feet!

My first flight was to Vegas in 1980. I'm terrified of heights so I was REALLY nervous. It was great though - I really enjoy flying and find sitting by the window actually easier than towards the centre of the plane.

I still sometimes get a little nervous at takeoff and landing since they're the most dangerous part of the flight, but other than that, once I'm up there I look out as long as I can and just enjoy the ride.

I'm 5'8" also with long legs but never really have found room the problem. If you do find it tight, book well ahead and ask for the seat by the wing/emergency door - it has more room.

Also, don't make the mistake of dressing to fly. I did on a business trip - dress and high heels - not a good idea! Wear comfortable, loose clothing and comfortable shoes and you'll be fine.

Next time I have to fly a long way, I'm seriously considering saving up enough to fly first class just so I have more leg room!! Coach is terrible for flying a long way if you're tall.

LOL - what size planes are you taking? Or are you wearing high heels when you fly? I've never really noticed a problem (other than bashing my head on the overhead compartments a couple of times).

I just fly the regular commerical planes - and I wear sneakers. So I don't know why I have that problem.

My first flight I was around 10 (10 years ago) and we were flying to New York for my brother's wedding. I loved it! I know some people don't like it but I think the best part is when we take off... I have to be by a window because I love watching everything get smaller and smaller. Landing is great too. The only thing I could never stand was the "stuffy head" feeling but I've learned that taking Dramamine (sp?) prevents that. We just flew to NY this Christmas and I had no problems with my ears popping etc. Turbulence can sometimes make me a little nervous but other wise... I really enjoy flying and could easily do it often

I was 4 during my first filght, a 10 hour trans-atlantic flight. Don't really remember much but I've done the same trip about 7 times now and love is more each time. I was going to get a career in commercial aviation but then decided to be an architect. I still plan on getting a piloting license tho.

I fly at least twice a year, but last year was a record for me, I flew 8 times.

I actually had no problem when I first rode on a plane at age 7.... but now at age 28 I have developed a paranoia about it. I attribute a lot of it to the events of 9/11, and to a lesser extent, the first Final Destination. I wonder if they ever showed that movie as in-flight entertainment?

(just a small tip for these of you flying -- it's a good one to remember, too! Wear shoes that you can take on & off easily, like sneakers that have elastic on it instead of laces. You will _HAVE_ to take yr shoes off when you go thru security. When I fly, I find that I like to take off my shoes for a little while... so that helps also, for these who like to do the same thing as me.)

I actually remember my first plane ride, and it was actually at about this very time. My entire family and I flew to Orlando, FL, to go to Disney World. This was when I was 4 1/2 years old, in mid-January of 1990. So I'm coming up on the 18-year anniversary since I first flew. For whatever reason when we were flying, I peed on one of the seats... I have no idea why.

I don't remember being scared at all, so I think I just had a really full bladder. I feel sorry for the employees who had to disinfect that particular seat after that flight.

I actually flew on a VERY regular basis, back and forth across the state, from 1995 to 2003. I was living with my mom and attending the deaf school, which had an agreement with the local airport in town, because the majority of students at the deaf school were from towns across the state. My dad lived in my hometown - which was one of these across the state - so I was one of the students who would fly back and forth... it helped SO SO SO SO much in the long run. If I took a car trip back to my hometown and back, it would have been 6 hours round-trip in the weekend. A plane ride back to my hometown was only 45 minutes each way, so that worked out very well, time-wise.

I've flown from my hometown to London, England. Lemme tell you... Crossing the ocean when you fly is a real killer!! My flight to London actually boarded in Minneapolis, and I think that flight was about 7 hours. When I was flying home from London, we flew into Detroit and THAT flight was over 8 hours. I STILL had to fly into Minneapolis AND fly home - so that was like six more hours of flying.

Needless to say, I was DEAD by the time I finally got home from London.

Last time I flew was when I went to Los Angeles and back. That was pretty cool... LAX sucks, but they have this really cool sign when you enter the airport... it just says "LAX" but in really big letters. I far prefer the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport... seeing as I've been there so many times, I know the airport well... and it's actually super-nice.

Anyway, that's enough of my rambling.

My first plane ride was in the 60's. Me and my brother were kids and a friend's friend took us up. It was a small plane. I don't remember much only the pilot and his wife and being a little kid I couldn't look out the window too good. It was a short flight. A few months later though the pilot and his wife crashed and died.

Mine was 3 years ago when I was 18. We flew to Orlando, Florida. It was only a 45 minute flight, so there wasn't much to it, lol.
