Oh No Get a Life!

Anyone had someone tell them that they need to get a life? I had someone tell me that today. I didn't realize I was missing one, but apparently I am. And this was solely based on the fact that my job is part time and I live with my parents. Nothing else, just that.

How rude and naive. Some people need to stop trying to change people into them. I'm gonna end up back in therapy.

Too many people use that response when they have nothing better to say. They are being insensitive and crude. What may be important to you may not be to them, therefore, they think they can say such callous remarks. Sorry you had to hear that.

I agree...and what gives someone the right to define what "a life" is?

She likes to pick at the fact that I have a BA and I work as a teacher's aide. Yet so does she...and she has no degree. At least I went. No requirement that says I have to use it to the T.

So hypocritical....and yet I still let it bother me and make me feel bad.

I've been told that because I'm a fan of Star Trek.

Don't let it bother you. Nobody has got a life. It's a myth.

I agree. I hate that phrase.

Even though I have been a huge Star Trek fan since 1987, no one has ever really given me hard time about it. Probably because I have never been obsessive. I own the the DVDs and quite a lot of books, but I don't walk around wearing pointed ears or Star Fleet uniform.

Maybe it's because I went to graduation in a Star Trek uniform...

I hate it too. It makes me want to just shout back at them to STFU and mind their own business and that they don't know me 99.9% enough of the time to even say something like that, and even if someone did, I wouldn't want to hear it. It's rude.

I can't believe someone said that to you. What a jerk! I hope this person isn't a friend or a loved one because then you can more easily stay away from them, which is what you need to do. I can't stand people like that who say such things to other people because they are unhappy with themselves. I know it's hard not to feel bad, but I bet that comment wasn't about you as much as it was about themselves. Just let it roll right off of you...don't let people like that steal your energy...they are not worth it!
And by the way, in all reality, very few people end up using their degree in the area it was received in. You're more likely to have a job that requires a degree but have the job be in something very different than the area you studied in. Very normal. I think you're fine.

Co-worker. This is day 3 of 3 so far that she's made some crack at me about not doing anything with my life or my schooling or whatever. I think some of it has to do with total bitterness (at least I hope) because due to a bit of a shakeup, she's losing some hours and I'm not. Well, fine, but it's hardly my fault; go take it out on a punching bag.
