Default Brandon Routh And Bryan Singer Dropped From 'Superman' Sequel

Superman Returns star Brandon Routh has been dropped from the movie franchise's sequel - along with director Bryan Singer, according to reports.

A younger Superman will appear in Superman: Man Of Steel - effectively replacing 28-year-old Routh - as the story focuses on the superhero's relationship with fellow DC Comics characters The Justice League.

Moviemaker Singer is "too busy" working on other projects to commit to the sixth movie in the superhero franchise, reports Variety.

It is hoped shooting on Superman: Man Of Steel will begin after the Hollywood writers strike is resolved.

Wel it looks like we can put Brandon Routh in the "Where Are the Now" file.

Looks like they have more faith in a Justice League movie than another Superman movie.

And for good reason. Superman Returns was horrible, plus it cost about 300 milion bucks to make, grossed about 391 million. Do the math. The studio barely broke even.

Bryan Singer probably knows better than to stay on this sinking ship, whixh is why he's now "too busy" to work on another Superman movie.

Singer should've done X3 instead. Singer's original plans for X3 were better than the actual film we got

Singer did have a good grasp of the X Men series, but I have to admit it, Brett Ratner did a pretty good job with X3. I hate to admit that, because he's such a tool.

Anyway...

It's ironic that Singer gladly walked (make that ran) away from the X Men franchise when they dangled "Superman Returns" in his face, and now all of a sudden, he doesn't want to do Superman anymore.

I just checked on the IMDB and he's still working on "Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise, plus he has two more movies to direct in 2008/9, one of them is the long awaited Harvey Milk biopic, so yes, he is "busy" right now.

Does "Superman Returns" even merrit a sequel? I mean I was going to watch it even though I hated SR. But with a different director and different star, it just seems pointless. Leave the Superman movies in the past with Christopher Reeves as the Man of Steel. I don't see any need for another movie.

BTW, I'm still ticked off that they're recasting Frank Castle in the upcoming Punisher sequel. I loved Thomas Jane in the role. I'm not even going to see the sequel with some new guy. Not even if he "punishes" a different Sweathog this time.

Wow. I must be the only person who liked Superman Returns. I thought Brandon Routh was a great Superman, and Bryan Singer's direction was great. It felt a lot like Richard Donner's Superman, which is a good thing.

The only thing I didn't like was Kate Bosworth as Lois.

UPDATE --

I just got off the phone with a very high-ranking mole who is absolutely in a position to know what's happening with this film, and he tells me that it is "absolutely false" that Brandon Routh is out as Superman for the stand-alone series.

The only thing that has been determined is that JUSTICE LEAGUE will not feature the actors from the other films. That's it.

Right now, Routh is still Warner's choice to return if they make another stand-alone SUPERMAN film, and that's based on conversations as recently as a few weeks ago.

Don't believe this one, kids. Routh's still the Man of Steel.

I think what I disliked about the new one was that it was so slow-moving and by the time any action took place, most people were already falling asleep or diverted their attention to something else. It certainly was better than pt. 3 and 4 without a second thought though. I think most people were expecting another return to form along the lines of how great Batman Begins was.

Lets' not forget 23 year old Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.

So, you were 15-16 when Superman left for Krypton?

I don't care how super you are Kal-El, we have laws against messing with teenagers here on Earth.

and what was with giving Lois a husband? We get that Bryan Singer has a crush on James Marsden, but still... it was pointless adding that arc in just because Bryan wanted to give his favorite eye candy a job

what I disliked about X3 is that it felt like an unfinished product compared to how great X2 was, and way too many characters were killed off (without spoiling more). It felt like Ratner was more in it for the money while Singer was in it for the love of the franchise.

How long has it been since you've seen Superman? Because it's the same way - it's at least an hour or more before Superman starts saving the day.
