Default ILL movie question

Does anybody know why they decided to use footage from episodes that had already aired instead of just shooting all-new scenes? I know they filmed new scenes to tie the episodes together, but still...ILL was just getting started, couldn't the writers have come up with a fresh script for a movie?

I think this was before syndication of the show worldwide took over so they thought, hey, by putting three eps together and just tying them up together we can get a movie made and released worldwide for almost no money, and the publicity will help the show also. However, MGM had The Long Long Trailer coming out and they did not want to have to compete with the movie of ILL so they asked to have it put in the can where it remained for decades.

I always miss you. I was just telling someone an hour ago what a great friend you've been to me.

Thanks, I didn't know that about "The Long, Long Trailer" coming out around the same time. I've never seen that movie before, is it anything like the show?

Bill ....

You HAVE to see The Long, Long Trailer. It is probably the best comedy movie Lucy made in my opinion, and it is like a 90 minute I Love Lucy episode in some respects. Just a fun, good, clean entertainment! It is available on DVD with the two other movies she made with Desi.

The Long Long Trailer is a must see for every ILL fan. Turner Clasic Movies airs it every so often, although it's not currently on their schedule.

The other day while coming home from work I spotted a small aluminum trailer on the 101 freeway with an I Love Lucy poster hung in its rear window. I had to say to myself, "It's the short short trailer!"

It's funny because after the movie wrapped, they put the trailer on their ranchito in the Valley. I've seen pics of Lucy and the kids near it, i wonder what they did with it after they sold the place. As for the movie, i can't believe you've never seen it, one of Lucy's best, i would say only Yours Mine and Ours is in the same league for laughs or taking advantage of her many talents, COMEDY wise of course, maybe i'd add Fuller Brush Girl to that group too. If you want to see her best dramatic performance, try The Big Street, for a great musical, go for MAME.

I should have said that I think Trailer is Lucy's best slapstick comedy. It is one of my favorites of hers, but I think my all-time favorite movie that she made is The Facts of Life from 1960 with Bob Hope. I think I like that one because it has it's "Lucy" moments, but it's a lot more adult humor. But after I said that I have to say it's a tie between Trailer and Facts of Life as my two favorite movies of Lucy's.

Forever, Darling was alright .... it has its moments, but not one of my favorites.

The only good thing about DARLING for me was seeing her in color in her I Love Lucy outfits. But you're absolutely RIGHT, i have no idea why i keep forgetting Facts of Life, her all time best SOPHISTICATED comedy, where she and Hope aren't acting, they just became different characters! For once!

Well it looks like I've put off seeing this for long enough, I'll have to get my hands on it soon. I'll be sure to make a thread about it after I get a chance to watch it.

Bill ...

Don't forget about The Facts of Life! It's just recently available on DVD in the new Bob Hope DVD set, and it is a great great movie. When I first started dating my now wife, I remember we watched it together (on VHS - remember those!!! Hahaha!) and we both really liked it!

OK Ben, thanks, I will definitely look into that when I pick up "The Long, Long Trailer." BTW, did Lucy & Desi do any other movies together besides "Forever, Darling" and "Too Many Girls"? Amazon has a nice looking set for sale called "The Lucy & Desi Collection," which includes those three...I'm thinking of ordering that instead of just getting "The Long, Long Trailer" separately.

Nope, those are the only three movies they ever did together. Unless you count the I Love Lucy movie which is on the bonus disc of the ILL boxed set. And you're right, that Lucy/Desi collection is the bee's knees!
