Question Gregory Sierra On Smith & Jones

Did anyone notice the actor Gregory Sierra on the episode "Journey From San Juan" on Alias Smith & Jones? He played a mexican bad guy and he was very good in the role even though it wasn't a large part.

Thumbs up

There's my honey!! I will admit that I like him better clean-shaven, but...

I haven't seen this episode yet but am looking out for the set to rent or take out of the library. Ann, can you PM me to tell me if he gets killed off or not (like he does in most of the stuff I've seen him in )?? Thanks, and I appreciate you including the screen caps!!!

I remember him in other older shows. I was not a fan of the reruns of AS&J. Good pics!!!

Here is his info and it is good to know he had massive amount of roles, although you can easily see in the beginning of his career he was typecast:

Sad but true. I have seen many of those episodes/movies listed on imdb, and saw him killed off in quite a few. I've seen him play a Hispanic, a Native American, an Arab, a gypsy and an Armenian (!). Besides his roles as Julio and Chano, my favorite role of his was in the Kung Fu episode The Stone. He was so romantic!!! (catlover79 melts into a pile of mush)

Sierra also played a bad guy in the western movie "The Culpepper Cattle Company", probably not long after he appeared in "Alias Smith & Jones". In the movie, he plays the leader of a gang of horse thieves. He's very memorable -- mean, menacing, and maybe even a little scary -- despite his fairly short time on screen.

Yes, I saw that movie and you're totally right. The character has only one eye, if I recall correctly. He also played bad guys in the classic western Gunsmoke (twice) and the TV movie The Gambler: The Adventure Continues.

Yeah, he's the one-eyed guy who gets killed (along with his whole gang) in the saloon gunfight. He had it comin', that's for sure.

Most of the characters he played who were killed off in his career (and there were plenty of them!) did deserve it. I just thought of another Western he played a bad guy in - 1974's Castaway Cowboy, with James Garner and Vera Miles. He played Robert Culp's henchman. Several years later, the two would be reunited when Mr. Sierra guested on Greatest American Hero, on which Robert Culp was a regular.

Here is Gregory Sierra guesting in one of the final Gunsmoke episodes, as a bad guy named Osuna. Ironically, one of his adversaries in this episode was played by Hal Williams. Of course, the two of them also appeared on Sanford & Son at the same time as Julio and Officer Smitty.
