Default Mel was OUT OF LINE when he said this to a 15 year old Girl

In tonight ep-"Here Comes Alice Cottontail" Mel allowed Tommy to have his party at his house and this gorl said to Mel she don't have a dance partner and once Mel started dancing with her he said--"YOU KNOW YOU REMIND OF A GIRL I DATED IN HIGHSCHOOL"

HUH??-lol Why would he say something like that and was old enough to be her grandfather??

I thought so as well. This was the 70s and things were loose then which is why we are paying the price for loose practices. But that was in poor taste. What was the writers thinking??? I know if that was played out today they would not got away with it.

I think you guys are reading too much into this. I don't think Mel was hitting on her, just reminded of someone he once knew, that's all. Back in the seventies, no one would have thought twice about this scene.

He still wasn't supposed to say it to her-lol Because it sounded like a come one and just looked strange for someone his age to mention that to a teenager

That is the whole thing right there was the age factor of Mel and that gal.

No it was not reading too much into it. That was the problem back then and why so many adults have got away with those kind of things with minors. No one then spoke up and/or came forward when that type of behavior was exhibited by an adult.

Even at 32, I wouldn't even feel right saying to a 18 year cashier at my neighborhood store-"You remind of someone I used to date"

LOL

I missed the episode so I can't say one way or the other. I can't recall the scene from memory, it has been so long.

Just reading it, it sounds kind of "weird"...yet, I think Mel was saying it as if he was having a memory of his teen years. Not at all was he trying to hit on the girl.

And the girl mentioned that Mel reminded her of her grandfather or something right after he said that she looked like someone he knew in high school. To me that's what made it funny.
