Oh No Cruise 'scared to star with Smith'

By WENN world entertainment news - 25 minutes ago

Tom Cruise refuses to star alongside best friend Will Smith, because he fears he'll be upstaged - according to reports.

The pair are close pals and frequently speak of plans to act together - but sources tell the National Enquirer Cruise is terrified a collaboration would kill his career.

The insider claims Cruise backs down over every script Smith sends him and never returns the offer.

The source says, "Tom's a great guy, but he sees Will as competition - a movie like I Am Legend is the kind of role Tom used to get offered first. The feeling is that Tom fears he'll suffer by comparison if he acts alongside Will. He hasn't really worked with another strong male lead since Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man."

The source insists Smith doesn't care: "He knows how Tom is, and it's not going to end their friendship if they never appear on screen together."

And he WOULD be upstaged too. Good to know that Tom at least has some lucidity left in him to know it wouldn't be hard to upstage him these days.

What a joke. Insiders, unnamed sources tell The Enquirer. Good Lord.

Tom Cruise may be different or whatever in his personal life, but he can act. I doubt Smith is intimidating him.

considering his last movie co-starred Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, two established legends in the business with resumes that put Tom's to shame, why would he be so worried about working alongside Smith?

^ Well, Will Smith does have two Oscar nominations (for Ali and Pursuit of Happyness) to his credit, so he's not a total hack.

I know that, I was actually seriously pissed off he lost last year since he totally had the Oscar in the bag (because I hate his series doesn't mean I'll refuse to see any movie he's in), but when your last movie boasts Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, two actors when combined have almost 80 years in the biz and are regarded as two of the greatest living actors around, why would you be afraid of being upstaged by Will Smith when you just worked with Streep and Redford? It's like someone working with DeNiro but being afraid of being upstaged by Jake Gyllenhaal, who is a great actor too, but hasn't been around nearly as long as DeNiro has.

They're both A-List actors, with an edge to Cruise. He's had an amazing career, and Smith is doing great himself. I just don't believe that Cruise is afraid of being upstaged by Smith. I think it's BS.
