Question regarding episodes of TWILIGHT ZONE - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I have seen Twilight Zone here and there throughout the years and have always wondered abt something. There are some episodes that were filmed differently than the rest. For example, the episode that features the child actor Billy Mumy was filmed differently. It reminds me of the old soap operas and how they were filmed in black and white. Why were some episodes done this way?

Six episodes were produced on videotape as an experiment during the 2nd season. "Static", "Twenty-Two". "Night of the Meek", "The Whole Truth", "The Lateness of the Hour" & The Bill Mumy episode you mentioned: "Long Distance Call" The videotape experiment was done as way to try and cut costs but it was a huge disappointment and was never done again.

Thank you. I always wondered why they did that. So it had to do with money/budget. I didn't like the videotape episodes because of how they looked. It didn't seem "scary" enough for me.
