How do you think the castaways were able to keep their spirits up during Christmas? And which castaway would have the hardest time with missing their family & friends?

MaryAnn would miss family and friends the most; her recollections of the farm on Kansas seem to relate to people the most, whereas:

The Howells miss their money
ginger misses Hollywood
the professor misses the laboratory
the Skipper misses the Navy
Gilligan would just as well stay on the island.

Yeah, I think she would have the hardest time with missing her family at Christmas. Ginger and the Howells would probably come in second & third with missing their friends and whatever family they had. I think putting up that little palm christmas tree was a way of keeping their spirits up.

I agree that MaryAnn would definately regret not being with her family; but I'm sure she'd put up a good front regardless.
Yeah.
I don't think Gilligan would be extremely glum
Nor the Skipper (though he most definately longed for a good Christmas dinner!)
The Howells... I think they definately miss all the Christmas parties but in the end I'm sure they'd be glad for at least each other's company.
The Professor... harder to say but I think he would be fairly quiet if he had a preference because he's not extremely open about his feelings.
Ginger... I'm sure she'd rather be home for the holidays...
but I think that her deepest regret would come on New Years; when she realizes another year has gone by and she's still stranded meaning her career in Hollywood is looking dimmer and dimmer...

It really is a wonder that they didn't get depressed during the holidays, especiallly Ginger as you mentioned above.
