I Love Lucy has always been my favorite TV show. I turned 53 yesterday. My second favorite is Beverly Hillbillies. I LOVE all the classic shows, some more than others. I've had people infer I am living in the past because I like to watch these shows. They say I should like today's shows instead, which some I do but not alot. I would much rather spend my time watching ILL, BH or Andy Griffith.
Am I living in the past???? |

Nope, you are just showing you have GREAT TASTE! I'm 57, so you and I LIVED through the success of the series, let's face it, it is the most popular TV show in history and has stood the test of time, it's the ONLY tv show inducted into the TV HALL OF FAME. There are other shows i LOVE like Everybody Loves Raymond or Roseanne or Seinfeld, but as great as they are, they will never know the success of our LUCY shows. The show is TIMELESS and it's also hysterically FUNNY, and how many shows can you say that about these days? Garbage like According to Jim? And remember that FILM people, who worship truly great films like Citizen Kane are also known for their good taste, people don't say they are living in the past. Many other classic shows like All in the Family or even Mary Tyler Moore, that have gotten so many awards and are revered by all do not sell that well on DVD because people want FUNNY, not preachy or with a message or trailblazing, they just want to enjoy the BEST there is out there and LUCY certainly fits the bill.

Good points. AND I like them because they are clean. I'm not a prude BUT it's so nice to watch well written shows that aren't filled with curse words or a sex reference every other minute. Seinfeld is one of my favorites too. I bet I've watched each episode at least 10 times. But there are episodes I wouldn't watch with little kids in the room. Can't say that about ILL. They're all family friendly.

Well I am 33 and wasn't even born when some of these shows were on and I think they are so much better than shows nowadays. Don't get me wrong I watch shows of today but shows of the 50's thru the 80's were much more cleverly done and more clean. I am not a prude either but some of the sleeze nowadays gets old.

I think we all tend to hold things dearest that we grew up with, whether it be tv shows, movies, music, fashions, whatever. I still love The Beatles and The Monkees; my Ipod is full of their music. I don't even know most of the bands that are popular today, and I don't even watch prime time tv anymore. I'm sure when today's kids are in their 50s they'll be looking back fondly on Hannah Montana and saying how much better she was than the junk of "Today". It's just part of being human; nothing wrong with it.

Yup, agreed, however it just stands out that Lucy humor has lasted for over half a century but i don't think shows like the garbage we see now will last a decade, never mind a half century. I mean i watch Two and a Half Men, and i like it, most times, but i can't see myself buying them on dvd or even watching them years from now. And as i watch my other favorites like RAYMOND, i find myself going through a whole season to find one or two that i want to watch again. And that's a GREAT show!

I wouldn't say that they think I live in the past; only just what it is that I find so funny about it
