Default Brandy Cleared of Charges in Fatal 2006 Car Crash

No charges will be filed against singer/onetime America's Got Talent judge Brandy, who almost exactly a year ago was involved in a car crash that left Awatef Aboudihaj, a 38-year-old married mother of one, dead. In a statement to TV's Extra, press deputy Frank Mateljan says, "After conducting a thorough investigation, which included consulting with some of the top accident reconstruction experts in the country, [Los Angeles] city prosecutors concluded that there was insufficient evidence from which a jury could find Ms. Norwood guilty... beyond a reasonable doubt."

Though Brandy at one time was possibly facing a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge, recent reports have suggested that she did not cause the accident but rather was a victim of a pile-up when Aboudihaj's car struck the vehicle in front of her, before Brandy made any contact.

I had heard abt that earlier. Criminally she is not liable however, the family of the woman killed has a pending lawsuit against Brandy. Although, I also heard that during the autopsy, that woman was found to have marijuana in her system. Hmmmm...if that family were smart, they should have left this alone and allow their family member to rest in peace rather than drag those kind of facts out in the open and leave themselves open to being sued by the other victims in this accident. The dead woman's estate can now be sued if she is found to have been partially at fault. Then again, those facts are public record, so it would have been found out sooner or later.

good, I hope Brandy can clear her name now. I have a feeling this is going to haunt her career for years, much like I know a lot of people got mad at Eric Dane for marrying Rebecca Gayheart, because years ago Rebecca accidentally killed a kid driving. Because of that incident, people still criticize her to this day and people were so mad because she found a husband instead of committing suicide after what happened :roll

There's a difference because Brandy was cleared, while Gayheart was convicted of vehicular homicide. It was her fault, speeding, making an illegal turn around a car, killing a 9-year old boy. That guilt must eat away at her. I'm surprised that Brandy was cleared because of news reports that she was speeding and driving recklessly, and witnesses saying that she was hysterical at the scene, saying that it was her fault.

Apparently the CHP found that the car in which the woman was killed, had hit another car PRIOR to Brandy's car hitting it. There was some discrepency on that issue and I guess their findings, talking to witnesses and tire marks prove Brandy innocent of any wrongdoing.

Good. Hopefully she'll get to work on a follow up to the great Afrodisiac album.

I agree. I never understood why her popularity took such a downturn this decade when Full Moon and Afrodisiac were far better than her more successful 90's output.

Brandy, Monica, and Aaliyah were the "it" girls among both white and black fans during the nineties. Then in 1998 and 1999, Britney, Christina, and entire pop scene came along and IMO, took a huge chunk of Brandy's fan base, especially her white fans.

I don't think she ever got over that. "Should I Go" clearly explains how she feels.

that's true, I just figured with how huge urban music has been for most of this decade, that Brandy could've easily returned to the fame she had circa 96-98 without flinching. But then, Toni Braxton's the same way, she hasn't had a hit since 2000
