Why don't you try doing a search on yahoo or somewhere else? I imagine that there's a site out there that explains everything you're looking for.

Well, I can tell you what I can remember from when I used to take karate. I'm not sure if it's the same style as Nancy but this was the belt ranking system:

White: No rank
Yellow
Orange
Blue
Purple
Green
Brown
Black

Offhand I believe Yellow was a 10 rank all the way down to Brown for the 1 rank. I think there were 10 different ranks too for the Black belt from 1-10 but I never made it that far. Hope this helps.

Thanx Michele35. Do you remember the type of karate you took?

Nancy takes Shodokan.

i know in the form of tae kwon do (but it's still a specialized style... so it's even a bit different... and i know that nancy doesn't take tae kwon do anyway...) that i know of there is:
white
orange
yellow green purple
blue
red
il dam boil dam bo striped
black

then after you go through all of that you go through the colors again, but the next time advancing the levels takes MUCH longer... each level atained after going through the belts the first time gets you the degree in it. like... if you reached a black belt and went through the white again, you'd be a first-degree black belt (it's like a black belt with a white stripe), then orange=second degree, etc. green, in this system would get you a 4th degree.

obviously nancy takes a different type of karate all together, but i'm assuming that the principles are somewhat the same in a way or whatever. ok.. hope that helped a little...

Nancy McKeon takes Shotakan Karate. In Karate, you earn belts (and stripes/degrees) based on the skills you learn and perform. The number of stripes you earn on a belt before advancing to the next belt depends a lot on your school or teacher. Strips are not always used. The color of belts varies as well, some schools use more colors than others, a common order is: white, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown, black.

Karate is great and if you are really interested, you should check out this site: http://www.24fightingchickens.com/shotokan/

yea, i use to take tak kwan doe when i was in first and second grade and was actully preety good i got up to thing above a yellow belt but then quit because hockey became more intense and my friend last year was a second degree black belt(she was 12 at the time and nows she almost 14) but she was going to train for the olympics but she didnt want to because it was a LOT of work but she trains with the people who are going to the olyimpics but dose not have to practice as much since she dosnt want to go but as i understand the highest is a 3rd degree black belt, but i am proabley wrong

Cool

It all depends on what style karate you take on the way the belts go.. Im in Tae Kwon Do and my belts go differently then most who posted on here who used to take or still do take TKD.. SO it all depends.. By the way karate is one of my favorite subjects! LOL!

The ranking at Nancy's Dojo goes:
White: No Ranking
Yellow: 10, 9
Orange: 8
Blue: 7
Purple: 6
Green: 5,4
Brown: 3,2,1
Black: 1 - 10

Hope that helps.

At my Dojo, only the black belt has rankings/degrees:
White
Yellow
Orange
Purple
Blue
Green
Green Black Stripe
Brown Black Stripe
Red Black Stripe
Black - 9 degrees

But it depends on the style. I'm taking Sikaron.

Jinny: Listen, if I shoot the neighbors cat, I must take you to defend me in court.
